Landed in Japan and immediately got approached by a film crew from local TV station 7 wanting to learn what I will be doing in Japan. I told them about @BSVBlockchain and @ChampionsTCG_ and they may follow my adventures through this week.
@WilliamShortss@theswansjr@SendBSV@MackovicToni Section 11.
He describes a scenario where an attacker controls more hash than honest nodes. He says even if this happens, the network can't be taken into arbitrary changes.
This is because hash alone doesn't define validity. Otherwise, majority hashers could inflate the supply.
@WilliamShortss@theswansjr@SendBSV@MackovicToni Yes, I understand. BUT if a majority of hash is controlled by dishonest nodes, that does not magically make the invalid block tip valid. In other words, hash alone does not define honesty. Honesty depends on more than just CPU power, and Satoshi detailed this in his white paper.
@WilliamShortss@theswansjr@SendBSV@MackovicToni Not necessarily. POW is not the sole determinant, otherwise the network could be "taken into arbitrary changes." POW is used to signal between honest actors. When POW is not rooted in honesty, it's no longer a determinant for the direction of the network. Satoshi outlined this.
@WilliamShortss@theswansjr@SendBSV@MackovicToni To allow for these kinds of changes opens an attack vector. That attack vector is easier to see by people who are not biased by the temporary benefits that stem from coin price appreciation, but they get ignored too often by the advocates for whom that appreciation benefits.
@WilliamShortss@theswansjr@SendBSV@MackovicToni Sure, but there is complexity and nuance to this conversation which often gets dismissed. An easy example to see would be the process of inflating the coin supply. It's possible/legal to do so, but honest nodes should reject it. Decentralization is more than just distribution.
@theswansjr@SendBSV@MackovicToni Instead of deriding BSV, I think it is wiser to learn something from it. There are many principled stances in BSV and from Craig which have turned out to be correct over time. Don't be one of those people who'd rather stick your head in sand to appease the low-IQ popular mobs.
@theswansjr@SendBSV@MackovicToni In addition, "decentralization" comes with an important caveat which is that the protocol cannot be changed. You and others seem quick to lampoon BSV for its "lack of decentralization" but you clearly don't understand it. If the protocol can be changed, it isn't decentralized.
@hbgnostic Agreed! Whether it is high-level understanding of key concepts or deep-down technical understanding of low-level structures, he is far and away the most insightful.
