“Hum bhi Bharat ke nagrik hain…” — anguish and anger echoed through Kanglatongbi on May 16 as protests demanding the safe release of six remaining Naga civilians intensified.

The agitation entered its fourth day with women’s groups, civil society organisations, and indigenous bodies joining hands against the alleged abduction of 20 Naga civilians from Leilon Vaiphei village following the May 13 ambush in Kangpokpi district.

While some abductees have reportedly been released, six are still said to be held hostage.

Frustrated protesters questioned both the state and Centre over their inability to secure the civilians’ release, raising slogans like “Hostages are Human, Not Weapons” and “Where is Our Government?”

The protest was organised by Koubru Range Liangmai Women’s Union at Kanglatongbi in Kangpokpi district.
