Our sovereign LLMs must be free from colonial narratives. The ethics committee under the IndiaAI Mission, whose mandate is to prevent bias, must ensure that training data is rooted in India’s true historical record, clearly distinguishing between invaders and rulers, colonial writings and indigenous sources, and avoiding distorted interpretations.

A sovereign LLM must not become another form of tech colonialism, feeding India curated or diluted narratives that prevent the country from understanding past mistakes and learning from moments where we acted correctly.

There is nothing wrong in demanding unbiased outputs. What is dangerous is branding a response as “biased” simply because it does not suit the preferences or ideological comfort of a few babus. That approach itself introduces bias.

U.S universities like Cornell have already collaborated and published research on controlling LLM behaviour through benchmark datasets.

The idea of benchmark datasets is valid and necessary, but only if those datasets themselves are rigorously examined for bias. A benchmark cannot be tilted towards one community or ideology and then used to justify “neutrality.”

The so called mentor Vijay Chauhan’s comments on ChatGPT and caste bias did not emerge in isolation. They appear coordinated and aligned with a broader global playbook.
