Indian Army Chief Gen Upendra Diwedi recently clarified that rumour of the Anglo-Kuki Centenary Gate being burnt (which apparently fuelled the #Manipur violence in May 2023) was a rumour.
Giving further insight, Prof Bimol Akoijam says the rumour was part of a broader propaganda to justify the violence. "If it were merely a rumour, you wouldn't hear the same argument repeated ad nauseum on national media by Kuki intellectuals & politicians. "
Hmmm. Highly conniving strayegy built on repitition of falsehoods to shape a sympathetic narrative.
