When people ask why many Nagas are reluctant to welcome the Indian Army or other central security forces into our villages, they must first understand our history.
For many families, this is not simply a political issue—it is a deeply personal one. The names Rose Ningshen and Luingamla Muinao are remembered because they symbolize painful chapters that left lasting scars on our society.

𝐋𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐋𝐀 𝐌𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐎 (𝟐𝟒 𝐉𝐀𝐍𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟔)

Luingamla Muinao, a young Tangkhul Naga woman from Ngainga Village, was allegedly attacked by 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐢𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐡 and 𝐋𝐢𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐞𝐞𝐯 𝐃𝐮𝐛𝐞𝐲 of the Indian Army. According to historical accounts, they attempted to sexually assault her. When she resisted, she was allegedly shot and killed. Her death sparked widespread protests across Manipur and became a symbol of the people's demand for justice and accountability.

Rose Ningshen, a Tangkhul Naga woman from Ngaprum (now Kumram) Village, was allegedly gang-raped by personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) during a security operation. The identities of the individual personnel have never been publicly established in reliable historical records. Unable to bear the trauma, she died by suicide shortly afterward. Her death remains one of the earliest remembered cases of alleged sexual violence against Naga women by security personnel.

For many Nagas, these memories have never faded. They have been passed down through generations as reminders of the suffering endured by innocent civilians. The pain is compounded by the belief that justice was never fully served.
Today, as Manipur continues to face conflict and uncertainty, these historical experiences continue to shape public perception. Trust cannot simply be demanded—it must be earned through justice, accountability, and respect for the dignity and rights of every community.

Remembering Rose Ningshen and Luingamla Muinao is not about promoting hatred or rejecting peace. It is about acknowledging history, honoring those who suffered, and ensuring that such tragedies are never happen again. A lasting peace can only be built when painful memories are recognized, victims are remembered, and every citizen feels protected under the law.

⚡ Constantly blaming the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K will not make them guilty. We need an impartial and just investigation so that justice can be served for both the accused organizations and the affected families.
