Government clearly knows what's wrong with healthcare in India.
An exhaustive report tabled on 7th Aug in Rajya Sabha talks about alarming issues with healthcare in India.
Some of the things I read about:
- Govt Health Expenditure at 1.43% of GDP, failing to meet the 2.5% target envisaged in the National Health Policy.
- Private hospital charges are 8x to 15x of govt hospitals
- Govt hospitals have just 0.79 bed per 1000 population
- Govt spending on secondary and tertiary care poor - needs to be reviewed.
- Private hospitals do excessive billing, unnecessary diagnostics.
- The impact of rampant acquisition of mid sized hospitals by PEs.
- Over 40 cr individuals are excluded from both government schemes and affordable private insurance - severely exposed.
The report are suggestions from the committee to the ministry. It's upon the ministry to act on these.
Development cannot be built on the ruins of human dignity and state-backed intimidation.
My latest ground report from Dharavi exposes the brutal and reckless reality behind the forced evictions happening in the name of redevelopment. Families who have lived here for generations are not being met with dialogue, but with brute muscle power. I spoke with a family whose 58-year-old father was assaulted by contractor goons and left hospitalized in critical condition simply for demanding clarity on their rehabilitation. While this violence unfolded, the police allegedly stood by, choosing to protect the demolition crews rather than the citizens. The sheer disregard for human life was on full display as contractors began tearing down a ground-floor home while family members were still trapped on the floor above. The residents of Dharavi are not against progress, but they refuse to be bulldozed into uncertainty without a fair agreement. Watch the full report to see the ground reality that authorities are trying to hide.

On 8 August 1942, the Quit India resolution was passed at Gowalia Tank. The next morning, with the leaders already under arrest, it was Aruna Asaf Ali who climbed up and raised the tricolour over the maidan.
Within days the newspapers were censored and the country went dark. Into that silence, a 22-year-old student leaned into a microphone in a rented flat: "This is the Congress Radio calling on 42.34 metres, from somewhere in India."
Her name was Usha Mehta. She opened every broadcast with Sare Jahan Se Achha (a song the government had banned) and read out the news the Raj was working to bury.
For close to three months she carried a hidden transmitter from flat to flat — Chowpatty, Walkeshwar, Girgaon — a step ahead of British detector vans.
Then she was betrayed, arrested, and sent to Yerawada for four years. She gave up no one.
This week's column is about her, and about the women of the August Kranti who never waited for permission to resist.

Hello @abhijeet_dipke,
Any update on the written assurance promised by JP Nadda and Jitender Singh on:
• Compensation to families of students who died by suicide
• No legal action against protestors
As someone who stood on the ground from Day 1, I’m being repeatedly asked for an update.
Please clarify.

8 activists who stood in solidarity with workers in Noida still remain wrongfully jailed!
2 of them, student activist, theatre artist Aakriti Choudhary and public intellectual and journalist Satyam Varma have been slapped with NSA
Join countrywide demonstrations on 11th August!
Good to see @ArvindKejriwal speaking against opaque Collegium proposals, especially when they concern Chief Justice appointments. Chief Justices control roster, which can influence judicial outcomes. Fixing courts is key to democracy & Opposition must openly speak out on this
Maharashtra shows the Way
Food safety is ultimately about people, not files, inspections or statistics.
Every safe meal is a family protected. Every action against unsafe food is a step towards protecting someone’s health, dignity and future.
Maharashtra’s experience reminds us that governance earns people’s trust when purpose is clear, action is fair, and compassion remains at the heart of enforcement.
Public service is, at its core, about standing with people; especially when they need the system most.

Shangri-La, Radisson, Taj, Vivanta and The Lalit have all been caught serving expired meat, milk products.
And I can tell you, it’s not about five-star hotels. Many global brands serve Western and Asian markets very differently.
Premium ingredients go to Western markets because they have stricter regulations and quality standards. Asian markets, including India, get cheaper alternatives: more palm oil, higher sugar and lower-quality substitutes.
Check almost any global brand, from KitKat to baby products. Same brand name does not always mean the same quality across markets.
This is one of the worst kinds of cheating. You pay a premium because you believe your food, your kids and your family are getting something safe and high quality. But if a company knowingly gives you an inferior product just because you are in a different market, how do these people even face their customers?
“What is the point of education if you don’t even know your own history?”
At the Jharkhand student protest, Babita, an Adivasi woman makes a powerful argument about what education really means — and who gets to define it.
She speaks about growing up in a state where education has remained deeply unequal, where government schools struggle with basic resources and where, she says, thousands of schools have only one teacher. But for her, the problem goes beyond poor infrastructure and alleged corruption in examinations.
She asks: why are children taught about India’s Independence, but not enough about Birsa Munda, the Santhal Hul or Jaipal Singh Munda? Why is Adivasi history and knowledge still pushed to the margins of the curriculum?
"Freedom fighters took bullets" is not a constitutional principle; it is a reckless courtroom taunt. @MahuaMoitra did not surrender her right to safety by entering politics. Judicial authority demands restraint, empathy and constitutional sobriety, not performative bravado.
Update: Ankit was granted bail by the Sessions Court at around 9PM.
I have been informed that people who participated in the protest are now being targeted in Uttar Pradesh. This is completely unlawful and must stop immediately.
Peaceful protesters cannot be subjected to harassment or targeted merely for exercising their democratic rights.
Newly joined PO, aged around 22–23.
Expected to reach the branch by 9:45 and not allowed to leave before 8.
Not good enough. We’re opening branches on Sundays too. You have to come.
This is enough to kill the enthusiasm of any young kid.
The kid has a life. Let him have it.

Under the direction of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the Food and Drug Administration has permanently cancelled the manufacturing license of Pune-based Inducare Pharma Pvt. Ltd. The action follows inspections revealing unhygienic manufacturing conditions, failure to maintain standard operating protocols, and laboratory reports confirming insect contamination and fungal growth across six key Ayurvedic formulations.
