A general point which has nothing to do with Viele himself, but will mention because its relevant: “good things to say about” and “respect” are important, but ultimately not sufficient for we care about, which are results. Again, not about Viele himself, just about respect.

Triple-A Sacramento hitting coach Damon Minor has earned rave reviews from players for years and it wouldn't be a surprise at all if the Giants promote him to work with Pat Burrell on the major league staff.

My only comment here is that these positions matter. Dodgers I think just proved that (e.g., their defensive positioning in the playoffs). Arguably, a lot of a manager’s value is in picking the right coaches. Price was clearly a miss. There is both upside and downside here.

More changes are coming to the Giants coaching staff. Hitting coach Justin Viele appears headed to the Texas Rangers. And asst hitting coach Pedro Guerrero is interviewing for a position with the Miami Marlins. Both had another year on their contracts and had been invited back.

Hmm. I do think the pro scouting department has been better than the amateur department in the last 6 years, for what that’s worth. I guess that experience will be good for a GM. But I don’t know much about Minasian, hope it works out. 75th percentile hire is my uninformed guess?
