Look at these 2 photos used by Zionists today in their speeches to #atx city council to paint us as “terrorists”. This is blatant racism, Islamophobia, and spreads anti-Palestinian hate. Using photos side by side w/false pretenses only creates more hate in our community. #txlege
I am going to be very raw and vulnerable in this tweet.
This poor child who starved to death. I cannot put into words how much it breaks my heart and how very triggering it was for me to see.
As many of you know I lost my dad to #Parkinsons 1.5 years ago and if you knew my dad, you knew he loved to eat. My entire childhood I remember him with his big belly, always enjoying food. Towards the end my dad’s body shut down and he was unable to eat or swallow anything, he was skin and bones in the end. One of his biggest life passions taken away from him. He was unrecognizable to me.
Do you know how hard it is to see your parent wither away in front of your eyes? To watch them slowly die each day, wishing simultaneously for this slow torture to end but wanting them to still stay with you as long as possible? To watch them stare at you with their eyes but they are unable to speak to you because they have no energy? That is what end of life and hospice care was for my dad.
It was traumatic enough to witness as a child and I cannot even begin to fathom what it was like to witness as PARENTS. As a MOTHER.
NO CHILD EVER DESERVES THIS!
How is this acceptable? And at least my dad had morphine to numb the pain and to keep him unconscious most of the time. THAT CHILD HAD NOTHING TO EVEN NUMB THE INTENSE PANGS OF HUNGER!
I never posted pics of my dad during his final days on this earth out of respect for him, because I know he’d never want people to remember him in that state. Many of his closest friends couldn’t even say goodbye to him during his final days because it was too difficult for them. They didn’t want to remember my dad in that way, they wanted to remember him as whole and healthy.
Do you think Yazan’s parents want to publicize their son’s body in this manner? Do you even think he wants to be remembered in this way? He will forever be remembered as the failure of collective humanity instead of a happy healthy boy. Not only did he suffer a horrific death, he is robbed of his honor and the way he’d want to be remembered. If you feel sympathy for what I went through with my dad, where is your sympathy for this child? The parents of Gaza are showing you their children’s dead bodies to beg you to see their humanity. Do not become numb to it!
With the current situation, there will be more children like him. How is it that this sweet innocent child does not deserve the collective outrage from the world that we allowed this to happen? How are you okay with the fact your tax dollars are paying for this?
I do not write this to ask for your sympathy. I am writing this wondering why so many of you continue to remain silent or are unwilling to speak up for innocent children! Nothing justifies killing over 12,000 kids in Gaza! I want to see you donate, share on social media, and continue to call your reps and ask them to push for a ceasefire (which will release all the hostages, get more humanitarian aid in, and stop the bombings).
Don't pretend you care about Gaza without having any actions to prove it. Don't be performative - be proactive! And I do not want to hear how you think people such as myself will fight to make the world a better place, I really resent that statement. It is imperative on every single person to speak up against these atrocities. If it was your child, wouldn’t you want the world to fight for you too? #ceasefirenow
After spending my entire career studying TIAs, Don Easton and I are recommending we retire the term. It isn't clear that TIAs ever existed, at least as they were conceptualized. Rise up Acute Ischemic Cerebrovascular Event/Syndrome. https://t.co/FeG31pPHey

While working for the state I’d have to use a vacation day to celebrate Eid. If this bill passes, Muslims working for the state will be able to take a day off w/o using a vacation day. #txlege

Two years ago today I found myself in the hospital having suffered a serious stroke. Unable to walk or stand. I was initially afraid and angry. In this picture I’m smiling because I knew I’d walk again due to the love and support of my wife, my family, friends, and fans. 🙏🏾
