A very contentious part of the film’s shoot was related to the question: “Did I get the stache right?”

According to my Dad the answer was: “Not even close.”

With the film coming out later this week, I’m hoping someone out there can help settle this debate once and for all.

Growing up in Canada means you always sort of knew your parents had a different upbringing than yours, but when you ask about the little details such as brushing your teeth…that’s when you realize just how far apart your childhoods really were.

To say this film once looked and sounded like it was made in a basement is an understatement. With a ton of help from Elemental Post, combined with Gary Chutai's cinematography, For My Father’s visuals and sound design are both aspects of the film that I’m tremendously proud of.

When it comes to making a film it really does take a village. I didn't have one. Instead, I had a handful of friends who basically did the work of a thousand villages put together. And there would be no film without them. I'll be forever grateful to everyone who contributed.

With 2 weeks to go until the film’s release, I wanted to share the first minute of the film. Not just because it’s the first minute, but because it’s also the first scene I shot for this project, well before I even knew what it was going to be. This scene was filmed in 2016.

After getting the clothes and stache just right - I also had to ensure my rapidly thinning hair could match my dad’s lusciously thick locks (that genetically missed me by a mile and a half). Not an easy task but one that was perfected by William O’Reilly at Paulie’s Barbershop.

For me to truly understand my Dad, I had to become my Dad...in stache, clothes, and swagger.

On November 6th 2015, I sat my father down and asked him to tell me his life story.

And now on June 11th 2019, I was able to present that story to the most important people in it. My Family.
