"Cuban families, including many of our neighbors in the Tampa area, businesses and educators will benefit as both countries cast off outdated Cold War policies that limit interaction and progress on economic and human rights reform." - Rep. Castor 2015
Rep. Barbara Lee reads from a letter, signed by over 100 civil society organizations in Cuba, calling for the country to be removed from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list: “Cuba is not a terrorist state. There’s absolutely no evidence that may support a claim otherwise.”
🚨 Over 50 elected officials, labor leaders, and solidarity organizations nationwide are calling on @POTUS to remove Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, ease Trump-era sanctions, and send humanitarian aid. It’s time to act. https://t.co/MmNoYNy0BU

You can hear Miller’s total disregard for the international community when asked about the Cuba embargo vote.
Matt Lee: It was 187 to 2
Miller: I’m aware of the history of votes
Lee: At what point are you gonna realize the entire world, with the exception of you and Israel, thinks the embargo is a bad idea
Miller: We take their opinion seriously but we make our own policy
Lee: You do? It’s 32 years in a row
Miller: We take their views quite seriously
Lee: That’s not borne out by the facts

Recent poll data from @InGlobalAffairs shows that most Americans across all age groups support normalizing relations, lifting sanctions, and ending travel restrictions. Why not pursue a U.S.-Cuba policy that is popular and familiar to you, @USRepKCastor?
Virtually all countries already demand better for the people of Cuba each year at the UN General Assembly when they vote in support of ending the U.S. blockade against Cuba. Something that you previously supported during the Obama administration, @USRepKCastor.
Decades of neglect and dependence on imported fossil fuels, compounded by a suffocation of people’s rights under communism and hopes to live free, should rally all countries to demand better for the people of Cuba.
@USRepKCastor, if you want better for the people of Cuba, I encourage you to once again support normalized relations, lifting the embargo, and ending travel restrictions https://t.co/p3TWoxNre3
Cuba’s Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) trains thousands of young people from around the world to become doctors. Most of the students at the ELAM are from other Global South countries, including more than 200 from Palestine.
Murid Abukhater is one of them.
“We all have something in common,” said Murid, who left Gaza in 2017 to study in Cuba. “We couldn't study medicine in our own countries and we received a full-ride scholarship in Cuba.”
“We learn to become humane doctors with ethical values, caring for people's needs
rather than focusing on money or materialistic things,” he said. “The Latin American School of Medicine means a lot to Palestinians because it has given us a great opportunity to achieve our dreams of becoming doctors. We are here to return to our homeland as doctors and help our people.”
