دوستوں گزشتہ دو دن ایسے علاقے میں ہوں جہاں موبائل سگنل نہ ہونے کے برابر ہے۔ کہیں کبھار آدھا ادھورا انٹرنیٹ کہیں سے ملتا ہے تو دنیا سے جڑنے اور آپ سب کی محبتوں اور حوصلہ دینے والے پیغامات کو دیکھنے کا موقع مل جاتا ہے
ایسے وقت میں جب حالات آسان نہیں، میرے صحافی دوستوں اور پوری ایکس فیملی نے جس طرح میرا ساتھ دیا، میرے لیے آواز بلند کی اور حوصلہ بڑھایا، اس محبت کا شکریہ الفاظ میں ادا کرنا شاید میرے لیے ممکن نہیں۔آپ کا یہ ساتھ میرے لیے محض چند پوسٹس، پیغامات یا الفاظ نہیں، بلکہ مشکل وقت میں ملنے والی وہ تھپکی ہے جو انسان کو دوبارہ کھڑے ہونے کا حوصلہ دیتی ہے۔میں جانتا ہوں کہ مشکل وقت ہمیشہ نہیں رہتا۔ یہ وقت بھی گزر جائے گا، یہ رات کھٹن ضرورہے یہ بھی ڈھل جائے گی۔ مگر آپ لوگوں کی محبت اور خلوص ہمیشہ یاد رہے گا۔میرا وطن پاکستان میرے لیے صرف ایک ملک نہیں، میری پہچان، میری محبت اور میری امید ہے۔ اس خوبصورت وطن اور آپ سب کی محبتوں کا قرض شاید زندگی بھر ادا نہ کر سکوں، لیکن اسے ہمیشہ اپنے دل میں سنبھال کر رکھوں گا۔

دل کی گہرائیوں سے سب کا شکریہ۔
آپ کا ساتھ میرے لیے بہت بڑی طاقت ہے۔

Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?

For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

عظمیٰ خانم، نورین خانم اور علیمہ خانم، آپ کا بھائی عمران خان، عاصم منیر کے اس دامِ فریب میں نہیں آیا۔ آپ مبارک باد کی مستحق ہیں۔

اس میں اس کی اپنی جرأت تو تھی ہی، کچھ ہم فقیروں کی دعائیں بھی شامل ہیں۔

تاریخ اپنا موڑ مڑ چکی ہے۔

In a smart move the Pakistani government has withdrawn its appeal for review of the Supreme Court decision to move @ImranKhanPTI from prison to a private hospital. The move should happen soon. This will be a good move for #Pakistan.

I am deeply disappointed to hear, just now, that Pakistan’s government intends to challenge the Supreme Court’s decision to transfer Imran Khan from prison to a medical facility.

I simply cannot understand this determination to persecute a leader of such national significance. This dark vindictiveness against such a towering national hero is neither Pakistani nor Islamic. It only weakens Pakistan.

I hope General Asim Munir understands that reconciliation with Imran Khan is the true mark of strength and confidence, not continued persecution.

◾️There is a point that interested me in the issue of transferring the charismatic Pakistani leader Imran Khan from prison to the hospital, after proving the deterioration of his health, is the interaction & the remarkable global interest in the story, which shows that this man has become a Pakistani Icon gaining international fame day after day, but at the same time Imran's fame is not being used in a way or so that benefits the country in general, despite some Pakistanis trying to underestimate him !

The order by the Supreme Court for @ImranKhanPTI to be transferred to the hospital is good news for #Pakistan. If implemented it can be a first step towards the badley needed national reconcialtion. I am hopeful.
