Fight against real sexual predators weaken when drama queens fake molestation for their 30 secs instagram fame.
Somebody extending their leg while asleep is not molestation, its just inconvenience which can be adressed by asking them to sit straight. #ZairaDRAMAExposed https://t.co/86hfLDfcqE
I told you guys, our man isn't fvvking around one bit.
What needs done, he will get it done.
That shitty eye sore Flex banners & pg posters must go.
Next all name boards/shop boards must be standardized size. One standard size & one font.
We build modern city, now.
Safe footpaths are essential to a city that puts people first. Through our Safe Footpath Campaign, we are making Namma Bengaluru's streets safer, more accessible and easier to navigate for every pedestrian, while carrying out the drive in a fair and orderly manner.
Over the last three days, we have cleared encroachments from more than 200 km of footpaths across arterial and sub-arterial roads under all five city corporations. I appreciate the dedicated efforts of our officers, civic workers and everyone involved in taking this initiative forward with commitment and care. This is a strong beginning, and we will continue this work with consistency.
Every footpath we reclaim is a step towards a more walkable, accessible and well-planned Bengaluru. We remain committed to creating public spaces that are safe, inclusive and built around the needs of our people.
@krishnabgowda@GBA_office
Poor and Middle-class use Footpaths the most. They are the pedestrians who are getting killed on major roads due to lack of proper pedestrian infrastructure.
CM @DKShivakumar and Minister @krishnabgowda have taken the first big step towards fixing the city for pedestrians. Lot many other steps are on the way including for public transport.
Agree that vendors have their rights and LOP Rahul Gandhi had got even a law passed in Parliament protecting their rights.
But one has to understand that only 1500 kms have been earmarked out of the total 15,000 kms+ roads in Bangalore as street vendor free, pedestrian only zones.
These are the Major Arterial and Sub-Arterial roads i.e. Main Roads.
Street Vendors can move to the remaining 80-90% interior roads where ecosystem will automatically develop. Hope GBA starts allocating locations in each ward for vending.
LOP Rahul Gandhi has always stood for the rule of law. That is the basis of his constitution campaign. Poor and middle class die on roads, we must give them good spaces to walk.
It’s ridiculous to link this to Yogi and Bull dozers where private properties are being demolished. The JCB in Bengaluru is removing permanently built structures on public pedestrian spaces. It is not destroying private property.
And what does all this have to do with gig-workers?
Activists in Bengaluru and Citizens of the city must actively support reforms and actions to make the city more livable instead of making illogical arguments. Political will for positive change must be supported. @CMofKarnataka
@hawee72@krishnabgowda Number of street vendors keep increasing exponentially each year, your idea is like a bottomless pit. Govt doesn't habe infinite land to relocate every hawker .
They tried in vijaynagar by building shops underground below metro station. Not one vendor moved there.
@mayukh_panja@rahulj51 We're ok with a little inconvenience, not with 100% take over of footpaths, if pedestrians start walking on road, then its a life risk for both pedestrians and motorists.
Life should be valued more than livelihood.
@mayukh_panja You can't have european solutions fro bangalore problems, Bangalore is a very old unplanned city with narrow roads and we've one of the highest personal vehicle count for any city in the world.
Compare the populations and then you realise that its apples vs oranges.
@mayukh_panja Please don't present it like bangalore is banning street vendors, they're only being asked to move from high density main roads where pedestrians are spilling on to road making it unsafe for them.
Bengaluru: Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar said that the government will bring a new footpath policy to ensure clear pedestrian access and impose fines up to Rs 1 lakh on illegal flex banners
"I have agreed that a new policy should be brought for footpaths. Citizens are facing a lot of trouble walking on footpaths. We have made footpaths after investing heavily, but vehicles are parked there, and business is being carried out. We must fix specific places for vendors and create an opportunity to keep footpaths clean for citizens to walk... That is why we have decided to bring a new policy for footpaths."
On the issue of illegal flex banners, he said, "No matter how much we say, flex banners keep coming up. All parties put them up; our party people also do. Everyone puts up flexes. The name of whoever is at the bottom will be fined. We have said that a fine of ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh will be imposed for each flex. Because this flex business has become excessive. Birthday wishes, all that. If the government has something, there is a streamlined system for it. There is an advertisement board. Anyone can take that and do it. Apart from that, there is no permission to put up banners anywhere else."
@peeleraja Next should be seizing vehicles driven on wrong side and footpath . Every act that defies decency of good citizen must be stopped, littering, encroaching, blocking, wrong side driving, footpath driving must be heavily fined
The news that the death toll in the Ammonia gas tragedy in a pvt company in Thiruvallur has increased to 17 is deeply disturbing. All the deceased are women and were migrant guest workers from North India.
The TN government has given Compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. How is this sufficient & justified? Odisha government has given Rs. 10 Lakh as compensation to the victim. The Odisha government also facilitated the return of those migrant guest workers who were discharged after the treatment. While the State Govt arranged safe passage of the deceased, how did the State administration forget the plight of those who were discharged from hospitals, waiting to return home?
The tragic loss of lives in the Ammonia gas tragedy in the private export firm in Thiruvallur also raises a lot of questions;
1)The first & foremost being the absence of the implementation of the 1979 Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act. Principal employers of establishments that employ five or more inter-state migrant workers must be registered under the Act. However, this accident and many earlier incidents have only shown that this Act is not implemented in Tamil Nadu and that no registry is being maintained.
Whenever a crime happens that involves a migrant guest worker from North India, a bunch of innocent migrant guest workers from North India are rounded up for enquiry, as there are no ways and means for the Police Department to narrow it down due to lack of registry.
However, after we pointed it out recently, we understand that the TVK Govt has begun enforcing this Act, at least in parts, if not in full. We trust that the State Govt takes the recent accidents/incidents seriously and enforces the availability of the register of migrant guest workers across all districts. TN State Govt could draw inspiration from the Athidhi app developed by Kerala for registering migrant guest workers and to ensure their welfare.
Even in the Thiruvallur ammonia gas tragedy, it was learnt that there was difficulty in establishing the actual identity of one of the deceased women, who carried a forged Aadhaar card to secure employment. This shows the inefficiency of the functioning of the inter-state migrant workers portal launched by TN Govt in 2023.
2)The welfare board for migrant guest workers is basically non-existent and needs to be established, strengthened and should be used to address the concerns of the migrant guest workers.
Tamil Nadu has today fallen below the replacement level, with a fertility rate of 1.3. To build the State’s infrastructure and work in industrial & commercial establishments across the State, we depend on the hard work of our migrant guest workers. Hence, it is important that we focus on their state of living, as most of the migrant guest workers are compelled to live in appalling conditions and have no place to complain, and their voices are never heard.
3)It is not just the duty of the welfare board but also the duty of the Department of Industrial Safety & Health (DISH) of the state government of Tamil Nadu. Even after a catastrophe that led to the death of 17 workers due to an ammonia gas leak, there seems to be no accountability taken by this department. It is time for “Transparency”. DISH should have made public their most recent inspection of this factory and any observations they made.
The factory in which these migrant guest workers suffered had accommodations within the place of work, surrounded by hazardous pipelines. How was this even allowed?
I demand that appropriate compensation be disbursed to the victims, that the 1979 Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act be enforced in both letter & spirit, and that transparency be brought by the Ministry of Labour of the TN State Govt on the functioning of the DISH & they also be made accountable, including the owners of the establishment, for deliberately ignoring the hazardous living conditions of the migrant guest workers.
@CMOTamilnadu
@peeleraja 100% , we've to stop sympathizing with illegal constructions, wether it's a luxury apartment, an extra room on roof , a shop on footpath. It's disrespect for honest citizens.
Success of Bengaluru’s footpath clearance campaign will be measured not by the kilometres cleared, but by the kilometres that remain walkable in the long-run. Sustained enforcement must become a permanent mechanism to prevent re-encroachment and build a truly walkable city.
India should start learning that footpaths are meant for walking and not for hawking, nor for parking or for shop keeps to put thier wares.
On one hand people want good infrastructure, on the other hand they want to use the footpath for non walking purposes.
The focus should on demaning alternate space for these vendors put up shop.
This is so awesome, @krishnabgowda sir.
Thank you for reclaiming our footpaths. I hope Bengaluru becomes a walkable city.
Footpath is meant for walking that's all.
@roadsofnammuru You can't illegally encroach , occupy common public space and then cry victim. Safety of a million poor low income pedestrians more important than rowdy street vendors , they've been asked to move to interior roads instead of main road, it is reasonable ask.
@relentlessrag The rich are travelling in their cars, the poor are the ones coming under buses because there is no footpath to walk.
The rights and safety of a million pedestrians is more important that a few thousand illegal vendors making everybody's life a hell. They can't be this adamant.
@rj_deepthi@krishnabgowda Take them to your home, main road footpaths are not made for street vendors . Fund them from your bank account to fix their life.
