Community & Trauma-Informed Peacebuilder | Founder, 54 Voices | Refugee Inclusion & Development | CSP Fellow, U.S. Dept. of State | MA Conflict Transformation |
As America celebrates 250 years of independence today, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude on one of the most impactful investments the United States has made globally.
I am especially thankful for the Community Solutions Program, implemented by IREX and supported by the U.S. Department of State.
Being selected as a 2022 Community Solutions Fellow representing South Sudan was more than a professional opportunity—it was truly a life-changing experience. The program strengthened my leadership, expanded my global network, and equipped me with practical tools to respond to some of the most pressing challenges facing my community.
I also want to sincerely appreciate my host organization, the River Phonix Center for Peacebuilding, where I served for 4 months. That experience deeply shaped my journey as a community trauma-informed peacebuilder and in community transformation.
Since completing the fellowship, I have had the privilege of mentoring hundreds of young leaders, strengthening peacebuilding efforts, supporting refugee communities, and helping build youth-led initiatives that create real impact. The ripple effects of this investment continue to reach far beyond my own life.
Programs like Community Solutions highlight the power of investing in local leaders and locally driven solutions. When communities are empowered, sustainable change becomes possible from within.
As the United States marks this historic milestone, I celebrate not only its rich history but also its ongoing commitment to developing leaders who are making a difference around the world.
Thank you to IREX, the U.S. Department of State, River Phonix Center for Peacebuilding, my mentors, and fellow alumni for believing in the potential of community-driven change.

My work is grounded in the belief that peace is not only negotiated at national or international levels, but built daily within communities by people with lived experience of conflict and a commitment to healing and transformation.
