@dieworkwear As if fashion is anything more than consumption. Fashion ceases to exist without consumption. It may be considered art but only conditionally.
@RoyalSerf I like the guy and I like what he has to say but this must have been taken in the early 2000. He was dead wrong. This must have been 10-15 years before peak woke
Just look at the history of ratio of realized to implied vol. vol sellers command a vol risk premium. Unless you are really good at timing spikes in realized vol you will come out having overpaid for the vol (as in the implied will have been > realized over same period). So basically “finding cheap vol” ends up being heavily correlated or even the same as timing the market really well

Finding cheap vol is the operative phrase and doing that is the really hard part. It’s really hard to know ex ante id vol is in fact cheap. Most of the time it’s not. Most of the time it’s fairly priced and even expensive. The guys selling the vol in question are generally not idiots
It’s so interesting because the same retention stats hold for the bottom tier bucket shop trading firms like T3/chimera/kershner etc. they hire 3 classes of 20 kids/year and 10-20% actually make it past 2 years. The ones who stick around can earn well. Somehow pods are more “prestigious”
Better way for the prof to deal with it would have been to tell the kid to hang back for a sec after class and say hey man I love the participation, but just want to clarify with you the meaning of ontological or whatever. Enough ppl don’t put in effort as it stands no need to put ppl down especially as a professor
