Earth has life because things die. But when something doesn't die, it replaces those who live.
Nonetheless, fun fact:
Plastic was created because there weren't enough elephants to kill.
A New York firm was offering $10,000 for anyone who could provide a substitute for ivory. Because billiard balls were made with ivory and there were just not enough elephants to kill to make them.
That indeed created another problem. A material that nature does not know how to break down.
In 2005, scientists found out that there was a certain type of fungi cutting through the waxy layer of leaves with an enzyme. The layer resembled plastics.
Ironically enough, nature gave us the solution to our problem of killing it.
Plastic takes hundreds of years to breakdown. Dr. Kavyashree Manjunath of @apratimabio has figured how to do it in 17 hours.
Dr. Kavyashree Manjunath, is a loonshot. I have more to say about her. And I will, in the next video. Thank you.

Here is my advice for PhD students, but honestly, it applies to anyone in general:
1. Be more positive, even when the situation isnโt.
โจ2. Choose what to worry about. Worry about urgent things you can change, not things you have no control over.
3. Learn your own limitations. Be ambitious, but realistic in your expectations. The higher you aim, the harder you may fall.
4. Everyone has a unique story. What seems perfect on the surface often hides unseen struggles.
5. You should compare yourself to others. But see it as motivation to do better or as guidance, not as a reason to put yourself down (see points 3 and 4).
6. Be patient with yourself. Progress is rarely linear.
7. If youโre about to procrastinate, go take a walk. Fresh air is better than doing nothing.
8. Surround yourself with good people.
9. Get enough sunlight, eat well, and exercise. These small habits can make a big difference in your energy and mood.
10. Take time to remember great memories and try to work toward creating new ones.
India is a strange country
We fail spectacularly at the macro level. Our roads are pathetic, cities almost unlivable, pollution and corruption are everywher. We are bad on most parameters for hygiene, water and civic infrastructure
But for some reason, we are wildly successful at a micro level.
Like retrieving an iPad from a crowded train. Moving and entire polling booth for one voter. Ensuring food is supplied across seven rivers, three jungles and one active volcano for one kid.
We are bad where we are supposed to be good.
We are good where people assume we will be bad.
