Drawdown is a frightening word for something completely ordinary.

Your equity curve will not print a new all-time high every day. No real track record does. The highest point your equity reaches becomes your high watermark. From there, you only earn performance fees again once you climb back above it. The gap in between has a scary name. It is just the market not paying you yet.

So do not treat a drawdown as permanent. If your strategy has genuine positive expectancy, the slow stretches are there to be sat through. The record grinds back. In time, it breaks higher.

The real danger is not the drawdown. It is what you do inside it. Changing your approach because the curve dipped is how an ordinary drawdown becomes one you never recover from. Hold your risk and trust the edge you tested. Let the cycle do its work.
