Things Nobody Told Us About Life

Nobody told us how much pressure there would be to become someone else.

By 25, you’re supposed to have a good job.

By 30, you’re supposed to be married.

You should have money.

You should have figured out your purpose.

And if you’re not there yet, something must be wrong with you.

But who wrote these rules?

I wish someone had told me earlier:

Your life is not a group assignment.

You don’t have to follow everybody’s timeline.

Look at Lupita Nyong’o.

She didn’t become a global star because she followed the safest path available to her.

She pursued acting, faced rejection, kept going, and eventually won an Academy Award for her first major film role.

Imagine giving up because your journey wasn’t moving fast enough.

That’s how many people lose themselves.

They don’t fail.

They simply become exhausted trying to keep up with everybody else.

So if you’re 27 and still figuring it out…

32 and starting again…

35 and changing careers…

Breathe.

You are not late.

You are not competing with your friends.

You are building a life.

And sometimes the smartest thing you can do is stop asking:

“Am I where everyone else is?”

And start asking:

“Am I becoming who I want to be?”

Your timeline is yours.

Protect it,you are not late, you are just becoming….
