Rwanda 🇷🇼 Jamaica 🇯🇲
I've got a story to share
As Rwanda marks the 32nd anniversary of Liberation, I wanted to share a story that looks beyond commemorations.
It is a story about where we came from, the values that shaped our institutions, and how those values continue to find expression today.
When President Kagame had been invited to visit Jamaica in 2022, he a.o. pledged to build on #MarcusGarvey’s Legacy of #PanAfricanism
It wasn’t just a “smart slogan” … it’s part of the core of Rwanda’s Soul which was wrought in the reconstruction of its own core, in its cultural fabric during the Liberation War
and so...
When Jamaica was devastated by Hurricane Melissa, a unit of the Rwanda Defence Force Engineer Command crossed an ocean to help rebuild homes, restore a school, and support communities in need.
"At a time when the Rwanda Defence Force has been the subject of international criticism and sanctions, I hope this documentary encourages viewers to judge the institution not only through political debates, but also through its history, its values and the work its men and women carry out on the ground."
Whether one agrees or disagrees with contemporary policy debates, institutions are best understood by examining both their origins and their actions.
This is my contribution to that conversation.
I hope you enjoy the film.
During my morning jog in Kibagabaga area in #Kigali today, I came across dozens of young people walking with purpose in the early hours. Curious, I stopped and asked where they were headed. They told me they were on their way to work at the Nyabisindu Estate construction site, just a few kilometres away.
As I watched them disappear down the road, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far Rwanda has come.
32 years ago, in 1994, many young people were manipulated by a genocidal regime & turned into instruments of the Genocide against the Tutsi. Today, Rwanda’s youth are builders, not destroyers. Instead of carrying weapons, they carry tools. Instead of taking lives, they are helping build homes, earning an honest living, and shaping the future of their country.
I recalled that the Nyabisindu Rehousing Project is a Government of #Rwanda initiative that will provide dignified housing for 1,600 families, transforming vulnerable informal settlements into a modern, decent community.
That scene before me was more than a group of young people walking to work. It was a powerful reminder of what visionary #leadership can achieve. Leadership shapes values, creates opportunities, restores dignity, and gives a generation a reason to believe in tomorrow.
As one author put it: “Everything rises and falls on leadership”
This morning, I didn’t just see young people walking to work. I saw a generation walking toward Rwanda’s future.

My deepest condolences to my brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his family and the people of Qatar on the passing of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will be remembered as a visionary leader who transformed Qatar into the remarkable nation it is today. His legacy of service to his people and commitment to friendship and cooperation among nations will endure for generations.
At this difficult time, the people of Rwanda and I stand with His Highness Sheikh @TamimBinHamad and our Qatari brothers and sisters.
"There are many success stories about what our young people are doing on the continent with artificial intelligence. We have to invest in them. It will be a win-win for everyone.” President Paul #Kagame#AIForGood
In every room and every forum where big ideas are discussed, President Kagame’s message remains the same: implement, deliver, and show results.
Experience teaches us that the world is not short of good ideas or promising projects. What it often lacks are people who follow through, those who turn their vision into action and carry their dreams all the way to the finish line.
Welcome to Jerusalem @RwandaMFA FM @onduhungirehe.
Today we signed agreements to expand cooperation in development, innovation and education, strengthening the partnership between our nations.
We also discussed Israel’s security challenges and the U.S. brokered peace agreement between Rwanda and the DRC, and the importance of its implementation.
We are two nations with painful histories, remarkable resilience, and an unwavering determination to build a better future for our people. 🇮🇱🇷🇼

AI & the Future
Rwanda 🇷🇼 President Paul #Kagame and Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc #Benioff are co-chairing the newly established AI for Good Global Commission. The United Nations 🇺🇳 and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) launched this commission to strengthen global AI governance and address unequal access to artificial intelligence in developing nations.
The commission aims to bridge the digital divide - which leaves roughly 2.2 billion people offline globally - and ensure AI is safely and equitably deployed for challenges like healthcare, food security, and education.
The commission's first meeting is convening in Geneva, Switzerland, bringing together more than 40 founding members.
Alongside Kagame and Benioff, the commission includes leaders from the ITU, Amazon, Nvidia, Anthropic, Microsoft, and Cohere, as well as tech policymakers from across the globe.
“Vision”:
Both leaders emphasize trust, ethics, and digital inclusion as the foundational pillars of the commission's work.
