In the aftermath of recent fabricated accusations targeting deceased BNP leaders Sanaullah Miah and Nasir Rahman in Dhaka, and Lokman Hossain in Moulvibazar, among others, the fascist regime has now declared another late BNP leader guilty. Abu Taher Daiya from New Market Thana BNP in Dhaka, who passed away four years ago, has been sentenced today to an 18-month imprisonment. Shajedul Islam Sumon, a BNP leader from Dhaka, who was a victim of enforced disappearance on December 4, 2013 and remains missing for a decade, has been jailed for two years and a half.

These farcical trials illustrate the deplorable state of law and order in Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina. Law enforcement agencies and the judiciary collaborate with ruling AL to indiscriminately oppress BNP leaders and activists, recklessly following the names listed in various BNP committees. The politically motivated cases against 5 million BNP members, founded on fictitious and groundless charges, underscore the gravity of this situation. The passion for democracy is clouded by a troubling absence of justice, but BNP ensures, truth will triumph in Bangladesh.

Analysts say that Hasina’s government now has the judiciary and the police fully under its control, and has weaponised them in her fight against the opposition. This week, a video clip captured police officers patrolling with a group of armed Awami activists chanting “capture BNP people, one by one, and slaughter them all”.

Last Tuesday night at Kishoregonj (October 31) police went to arrest municipal BNP president and district BNP organizing secretary Aminul Islam Ashfaq at his house. But he was not there. When the police did not find him , then they took Ashfaq’s two twin sons at their custody.

I strongly condemn the murder of garment worker Russell Howladar, who was shot dead by police today, during protests demanding fair wages. Police indiscriminately assaulted hundreds of workers in demonstrations in Gazipur and Savar.

I express solidarity with the rightful cause and support the demand for an equitable wage hike due to unbearable inflation. This barbaric attack on workers demonstrates that the fascist Hasina regime does not pay heed to international labor rights and oppresses anybody who stands against their heinous deeds.

Sheikh Hasina unleashed gross human rights violations on the streets of Dhaka, through violent attacks on the peaceful grand rally of BNP. Hasina and her politicized law enforcement agencies should remember that violence is never the answer.
