I spend my time making in depth let's plays to clear out my backlog of both classic & modern games.

Fix your hearts or die.

"conveniently left out" doesn't really apply when my post is focused on what happened with DA4 specifically between EA/Bioware from 2015 onwards, and not from the ME2 days because the post would be 3x longer at least to cover the ME2/DA2/ME3/Inquisition/Anthem/Andromeda timeline mess

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

Reminder:
- EA cancelled the Single Player Dragon Age 4 in development from 2015-2017

- Pushed them to create a live service Dragon Age because of trend chasing. They considered multiplayer the future of gaming, "nobody plays single player games anymore" except then Jedi Fallen Order released with huge success and they pivoted again.

- After 3 years of development on Live Service Age from 2018-2021, EA & Bioware decide to remove the Multiplayer component but instead of rebooting a second time they gave them 18 months to rip out all that live service work and have them make it a single player game AGAIN, at a significant disadvantage to meet expectations.

- Six years of wasted development now, when a lot of the series veterans had been laid off or quit out of frustration with EA along with numerous management and staff changes. Among these names are David Gaider, Mike Laidlaw, and later before Veilguard's release Mary Kirby. Her departure was an abysmal sign for the future of DA before this next game had even released.

- This resulted in the announcement of Dragon Age Dreadwolf in 2022, later renamed Veilguard which retained the scars of it's live service development when it released in 2024 and was never the true game Bioware would have given us if they hadn't been constantly fucked around.
We could and should have had the intended Dragon Age 4 before 2020, instead it took almost a DECADE for the follow up.

The worst things these companies do is trend chase something, with zero foresight on temporary trends. By the time you release that game public opinion has shifted. Rocksteady's Suicide Squad as a clear example of this too.
Just let creative people make something they are passionate about and stop putting them in boxes. Let developers make something real by giving them time and resources to deliver something memorable with a clear goal, not a post mortem example like Anthem on how not to develop a game.

EA has been fucking over Bioware basically since they acquired them. Issues with Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard aside as yes all three have their issues and you'll even have people going back to Mass Effect 3/DA2/Inquisition with issues as well; a lot of this comes from a long long period of EA pushing Bioware into a corner and then watching them be a punching bag for it. It also comes from internal schisms within Bioware where there was a strange Mass Effect vs Dragon Age rift and David Gaider said they may as well have been two different studios with how the culture was different, plus the writers getting fucked over at every turn.

People taking the lowest hanging fruit possible and are gonna just say it was Veilguard, it was Anthem, it was Andromeda etc that sealed their fate when in actual reality it was a long list of issues going back 15+ years that led to the issues within those games in the first place.

[Gray @Spectre_Gray]

Veilguard did not kill BioWare. Private equity killed BioWare. Money killed BioWare. Corporate greed killed BioWare. Shut the fuck up about wokeness and Veilguard for fuck’s sake. Holy shit

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

@ghostofcody Look towards the development hell of their God of War series and it will tell you all you need to know 😭

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

@personalhimbo no but he couldnt extract ANYTHING which tells him something!

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

@CLucifer996 Guess you forgot who acquired EA recently huh and wanna go for the low hanging fruit lol

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

My name is Commander Shepard...and this, isn't my favourite post in the citadel. 😭

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

@JussLikeMeFR not higher priority to me than the things I listed as very important though, I think listing very important for everything doesn't genuinely communicate what I want prioritised the most
Like they're still listed as important but I would prefer other things more

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

New Marathon survey was a big boy, longest one yet lmao

Glad I could at least rank the options here by importance because only being able to choose up to 3 the first time was tough as hell
Legit the only game I’ve ever filled out a survey for and any time it pops up too 😭

@sonicbarber FYI there was no survey option for “how excited are you for the Marathon Vinyl Soundtrack release?” So just wanted to say still very excited please let us get it

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

Being able to choose your dashboard to reflect the different eras of Xbox would be a very nice feature. OG Xbox all the way through to now including start ups? Yes please

[ASHA @asha_shar]

Blades on web. Do we like this experiment?

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

@RayNarvaezJr looks like they cracked the code on free viral advertising 😭

[jøy @_joy_net]

My investigative horror rpg HEAVY AS STONE has a new trailer and updated Steam page! If you like Pathologic, Condemned, or Disco Elysium, you may be interested in this :) @ZaccActs killed it on the VA (and I tried my best)

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

@CoolRunnerCraig too busy thinking how many times he can say in the article that Marathon didn’t meet his expectations personally and is a failure

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

@123_relentlesss to be real with you I put him in there for the meme

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

I'm down for Bungie's Battlefront III because they cooked with Renegades and have the best gunplay in the industry, but before that they're gonna need to move away from expensive Seattle office buildings and uh...rehire everyone laid off over the last 5 years except Mercules and the top brass that fucked off, make sure nobody in the C Suite has a classic car fetish, and have 3 teams with effective leadership and good decision making across the board to deliver us Destiny, Marathon and BF3 in gorgeous harmony.

Impossibly tall order but it's my maximum hopium take that will never be a reality.

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

The people desperately want Bungie to make a third game in a massively popular series that people have been wanting for so many years.

The Monkey's Paw curls, Star Wars Battlefront 3

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]

Working on a little something today with the new Beerus episode hype 👀

TotallyNotMark's Episode 5 remake mixed in with my favourite parts of all the different versions of this fight...with Budokai Tenkaichi 3 music plus doing the JP voices and sfx could be a fun full edit when it's done...

[Mapocolops @Mapocolops]
