Naema Shehadeh, a 50 year old divorced woman, is living in a cramped torn tent in Gaza with her 28 year old injured son, her 40 year old widowed sister, and her sister’s three children aged 9, 4, and 1, while her 31 year old married son lives nearby in another fragile tent with his two children, including a 1.5 year old boy with a severe growth disability and an infant; the family has been displaced multiple times and now pays 160 dollars in rent for the tent, despite having no steady income since Naema’s son, who was the sole provider, was martyred during the genocide, leaving her to manage chronic heart disease requiring about 450 dollars a month, blocked arteries needing a costly procedure, diabetes and high blood pressure that require daily insulin she cannot afford, while her injured son needs around 150 dollars monthly for treatment and cannot work, and her grandson requires about 200 dollars for specialized care; they lack proper clothing and blankets in harsh conditions where a single item can cost 80 dollars, stand in line for five hours each day to receive just one meal, and struggle to cover even the most basic needs including food, medical care, milk, diapers, and any safer or larger place to live.

Mahmoud Mohamed, a 36-year-old married father from Gaza, lives with his pregnant wife and their four children, three daughters aged 8, 6, and 4, and a son aged 1.5, in a torn, overcrowded tent that houses six people and offers no protection from extreme heat, bitter cold, or rain that floods the interior with water and mud. Their home was destroyed during the genocide; they have been displaced five times, and Mahmoud has lost his source of income. He suffers from a hereditary kidney condition that has caused recurring stones since childhood, requiring regular monitoring, tests, imaging, and laser lithotripsy surgeries, none of which are accessible now due to destroyed medical facilities and high costs (around $200 monthly), while contaminated water worsens his condition and brings severe pain. His wife is pregnant with their fifth child and will give birth in the same inadequate tent with no preparations or baby supplies. The three school-aged daughters lack basic school supplies and stationery (approximately $100 needed), and the family urgently requires winter clothing, blankets, clean water, and a sturdy new tent suitable for seven people (around $400) to survive the coming months. Despite his own chronic illness, Mahmoud says the deepest pain comes from watching his young children endure cold, hunger, and an unsafe environment he is powerless to improve.
