In "A Theory of Narrative Empathy", the author defines empathy, how it relates/differs from sympathy, and its misconceptions. #SuzanneKeen also does a great job describing the different types of empathy which can help the audience understand the text better. #Muddybuddies

#OctaviaB includes a lot of descriptive language for example, when she writes about the extraction of worms in Lomas. "..as she lengthened and deepened the cut, now and then pausing to lick away the blood..." #MuddyBuddies

Also, there is some exchange of protection of the Terrans by the Tilcs, in exchange for the offerings of one person in human families to bear their children. What exactly are the Tilcs protecting the Terrans from, other humans? #Muddybuddies

Also, I was a little confused about these killstreak points and the challenges of killing a person or humanoid. I saw it as a game/purging in a way where the humanoids make a profit off of the people they kill. #Muddybuddies

When reading "A Guide for Working Breeds" it was interesting being told little things about what goes on in this human/humaniod society. I presumed these humanoids are created with a purpose of servicing or doing certain tasks for humans, to continue functioning. #Muddybuddies

After these humanoids take a placement test to see what field they would be good in, they would be eligible to work in a place that suits them. Also, how they are treated by their bosses when they find work seems a little unacceptable.

I felt like this flashback in #Adjei-Brenyah’s story about the trial of Dunn was used primarily to show what led up to Emmanuels actions. If a guilty person like Dunn was proven not guilty by the courts, then maybe Emmanuel would be able to get away with the same. #Muddybuddies

Eventually his emotions he was trying to hide, led him to act violently later on.

I think another factor that plays a role in the conflict is the tension that was building up inside of Emmanuel already, because of how society was viewing his appearance instead of his character. #Muddybuddies

An example is how he got stopped because security thought he was steeling even after he just paid for his item, or how he said usually only one security follows him when he’s at a low level when three was following him because of the change in his appearance..

I feel its kind of Ironic in my opinion that he was trying to conform to meet societies standards by trying not to get to a certain level of his “blackness”, and towards the end he was at the maximum which led to his own demise.

I kind of see #Adjei-Brenyah’s idea of showing us Emmanuel’s constant worry of his own presence in a prominently white society and him trying to change by turning his “blackness” to a certain level in the beginning of the story. #Muddybuddies

I think it is kinda of scary how Remem is so advance that it can show a memory into existence just by talking or describing it. It kinda takes away from the idea of humans being able to remember things they care about their own selves.

Maybe #Chiang's purpose was to show how technology's influence can impact society and the relationships around us. Whether it is negative or positive I believe it is solely up to how that individual uses it. #muddybuddies

Different contributing factors in technology can affect the relationship of people. I believe #Chiang shows this in one of the many stories. When a journalist went out into the world and asked the opinions of some of the population about what they think of Remem.. #muddybuddies.
