Vroeger moest ik als huisarts in Vlaanderen vooral Nederlands spreken met de patiënten, met uitzondering van enkele afkomstig uit Wallonië, die soms jaren later nog steeds geen Nederlands spreken.

Tegenwoordig komen allochtonen in mijn praktijk en zeggen onmiddellijk: “Only in English please”.

Ik zeg dan dat er in Vlaanderen Nederlands gesproken wordt.

Maanden en soms jaren later spreken ze nog steeds onze taal niet.

En de meerderheid lijkt dit normaal te vinden.
