Steve Kerr played for two of the greatest NBA coaches ever in Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich.
He was asked, "What made them both so effective as coaches?"
His answer was so insightful and explains so much about coaching and leadership 👇
Alexandre Blais made a number of great passes tonight. Showed patience, decisiveness, and a little manipulation throughout these.
Overall thought that he played a very effective game in all three zones.

Tom Brady said, “If you don’t believe in yourself, why is anyone else going to believe in you?”
Self-belief comes from within.
• It comes from taking action.
• It comes from your self-talk.
• It comes from your past wins.
Your thoughts influence your emotions which influence your body and behaviors.
Your confidence grows when your inner self-talk supports the vision of who you want to become.
It means look at your self-talk, your habits, and your daily processes because that's what you're consistently reinforcing.
5 Principles for Better Self-Talk and Performance Habits:
1. Talk to yourself, don't just listen - It means challenge your thoughts. Direct your focus to be more positive and challenge your negative thoughts, rather than just accepting them. It's the power of choosing where to focus. This process will empower you because you're changing the conversation and taking ownership.
2. Give yourself proof of your past wins -Acknowledge your successes, big or small, by writing them down. This practice builds confidence and reinforces a daily positive mindset. Start each day by looking at your past wins to give yourself proof of what you've accomplished. End each day by celebrating your daily wins no matter how minor they seem.
3. Develop a relationship with your thoughts - Improve your self-awareness and listen to what your thoughts are communicating. Think through the details of where your mind was, what you were thinking, and what you were feeling. This self-awareness helps you understand your inner dialogue, leading to more constructive self-talk.
4. Be consistent with your daily wins - It means be consistent with your daily habits and look for small wins every day. These daily victories build momentum and contribute to a stronger sense of self-belief. Habits become sustainable when you do them 5 minutes per day, instead of one long session per week.
5. Reflect on the process - Growth accelerates when you take time to reflect and be self-aware. Think through the entire process of how you're reflecting and improving your self-talk. Look at your daily wins, weekly reflections, and then think through how you how you can improve, grow, and adapt.
Tony Dungy said, "If you only coach that person on the field and you only make them a better player, you've really missed a great opportunity."
Great coaches coach character.
Your character lives on much longer than any one win.

🚨 Alec Bohm : Dealing w/ Failure
• Accept the results w/out excuse
• The game’s hard & mistakes happen
• Move on… tomorrow is a new day
️ You can’t change the past. It’s over. All you can do is show up tomorrow & get back to work!
Lane Kiffin said, “You win the trophy, you hold it up, you take a picture, you hand it back, and you go try to win the next one.”
The Process is the Prize.
The trophy is just that, a trophy.
This is the power of “mindset” in competition.
It is about finding joy in the journey of pursuing excellence.
It is about getting better each and every day.
It is about living in the present moment.
It is about competing with yourself every day.
Don’t get hung up on the trophy.
Get hung up on the process.
Trust the process.
Tom Izzo said, "A player-coached team is better than a coach-coached team."
The best teams are player-led.
• They lead by example.
• They hold everyone accountable.
• They set the standard and embody the standard.
Player-led teams outperform coach-led teams because they lead the process, own the process, and hold themselves accountable.
They enable, build, and sustain the culture.
4 Ways to Implement Player-Led Leadership:
1. Model How to Lead - Model the behavior that you want to see in your team. Lead by example, avoid blaming others, and take responsibility for successes and failures. People will look to your actions and behaviors more than any words you say. By doing this, you are building a culture of leadership, accountability, and respect.
2. Set Expectations for Leadership and Goals - Clearly articulate goals, strategies, and expectations. Communicate where you expect people to lead. This avoids ambiguity and reminds the team what is important and why. By doing this, you are effectively communicating what you expect, increasing transparency, and improving alignment.
3. Encourage Ownership and Hold People Accountable - The heart of success and leadership is ownership. Delegate where they need to lead. Give your people the authority and resources they need to make decisions and own the process. Then hold them accountable throughout the process. By doing this, you are empowering your team to take initiative, make decisions with confidence, and develop a sense of responsibility for their contributions.
4. Encourage Their Continuous Improvement - Emphasize improvement and growth in the culture. Set time aside to gather feedback on where the team can improve. Encourage everyone to make suggestions and take responsibility of the process. This will improve engagement and create a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and open communication. You're making a more adaptable team in the process.
Great teams win because they have multiple leaders driving success together. Leadership is an uphill battle.

John Wooden said, "Champions never complain, they are too busy getting better."
The only thing complaining changes is your attitude.
When you complain, you focus on the negative rather than looking for opportunities for growth.
Complaining is not a solution, it's a distraction from action, gratitude, and growth.
How to Combat Complaining:
1. Lead by example - Your behavior sets the tone for those around you. Demonstrate a positive attitude and focus on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems.
2. Promote problem-solving - Shift the focus from what’s wrong to how it can be improved. This promotes an environment where people are motivated to address issues head-on rather than wasting energy on complaining.
3. Implement a "No Complaining" rule - Don't even let the complaining exist, discourage it. By doing this, you create a culture where negativity is replaced by constructive actions and solutions
4. Make gratitude a habit - This mindset shift reduces the tendency to complain by building the muscle of gratitude. Regularly practice gratitude by acknowledging and appreciating the positive aspects of your life.
5. Encourage positive communication - Encourage expressing concerns in a constructive manner that focuses on solutions and improvements. This leads to productive conversations and more effective communication.
