Watching the movie LINCOLN this afternoon that captured the intense political debate over the 13th Amendment. It disgusted me to no end. To see the fervor of these white men discussing whether or not Black folk are human, let alone deserving of the vote infuriated me to my core. At that very moment, my family was enslaved, 2 of my grandfathers emancipated and fighting in the Union army while this immorality was a cause of conflict of the heart and mind in men that considered themselves Christians. The hypocrisy of all involved is shameful. It was difficult to watch. I felt no pride in the accomplishment. That it took a war that killed hundreds of thousands for this nation to find a moral truth North is a tragedy of humanity. What horrifies me more are the decades and century of efforts to circumvent that amendment. As I write this we have an American President focused solely on a save act to suppress the votes of those descendants, to prohibit my peoples full participation in the American democracy. The disdain of the African American’s full participation in this country is real. It is a malignant cancer incubated in racism and prejudice as old as this country’s birth. There are those who do not have our best interest at heart at the very least, and allow their racism at the very worse to inflict violence and death. We see you and we know you. You put your hatred in policy and performance. We will fight against you with vigilance and empower ourselves as we regain our government power and litigate to protect our children while we hold you accountable for your crimes. In the public and private sphere. There is a social justice movement reawakening.
Donald Trump said Republicans should “take over the voting.” Today, he took another step toward doing exactly that.
Firing every remaining member of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission months before the midterms is a brazen attempt to seize control of our elections before a single vote is cast. He is gutting the independent agency that certifies voting systems and helps election officials run secure elections.
Senate Democrats will fight this power grab at every turn. The American people—not Donald Trump—will decide the 2026 election.
Conventional wisdom, with which I agree: Trump is more narcissistic, self-absorbed, and megalomaniacal than ever.
Conventional wisdom, with which I disagree: Oh c’mon, Trump understands he really can’t run again.
My hunch: Trump “understands” no such thing. He wants to run. He’ll try to.
250 years ago, this country was founded on a radical idea that government answers to the people.
Today, that idea is under attack by a man who embodies the very tyranny our Founders rejected.
Let's honor the promise of America by defending our democracy.
On America's 250th birthday, we need a declaration of election independence.
Californians will use every power, every lawyer, every law, and every ounce of will to defend our democracy against any illegal order this president dares to issue.
This is a government of the people.
NYC Mayor Mamdani on American exceptionalism: "We are told that America is exceptional because we are richer, stronger, more powerful than everyone else... The truth, my friends is that America is exceptional because here, nothing is fixed into place."
Political consultants focusing on candidates’ errant tweets are missing what resonates with voters. Voters are supporting candidates who have the guts to stand up for Medicare for All. For ending foreign wars and standing up to corporate lobbyists. That’s what voters care about.
@SteveSchmidtSES Your expression of a false equivalency of MAGA and the progressive democrats is nonsense. These candidates are not “crackpots.” They are what Dems should always have been. They are not anti-Semitic. They are anti-crackpot Zionists.
Trump ripped up the walkway between the West Wing and the mansion to replace it with polished African granite carved in Italy. "Paid for by me," he claimed. Except that's not true. Taxpayers paid $689,232, per documents obtained by @michaelscherer https://t.co/7l2bkD0MIH
@mariashriver@PeteButtigieg It also happens to people who are not famous and not speaking out. Abuse of powers by CPS agencies happens all over the country.
T***p makes Captain Queeg obsessing over the missing strawberries look like the image of sanity; major difference being that Humphrey Bogart was sympathetic in the role of the paranoid captain having a nervous breakdown in public, & the US president is a laughing stock.

Nobody is vandalizing the Reflecting Pool, and Trump knows it. This is a visible example of his corruption--a no-bid contract to some crony followed by sky-high cost overruns, and shoddy construction to boot. Classic Trump: I didn't fuck up, it was my enemies.
