A few months ago, the community officially voted to implement minimum validator fees on the #Casper Network. Today, we face the critical decision of fixing that percentage.

In our validator circle, the consensus is torn between 5% and 10%.

I’ll be blunt: I do not believe a 10% fee serves the best interest of our blockchain’s growth. Yet, with $CSPR at its current levels, a 5% fee is the absolute bare minimum just to keep the servers breathing.

Since the very first day, I have chosen to run my validator at a loss. I have stayed in the red, absorbing the costs myself because I gave my word to this community. My loyalty to you hasn't wavered.
I will always fight for the lowest possible fees, even when it’s my own pocket that feels the weight of that promise.

Now, the choice is yours. What do you feel is the right balance for our future? Is 5% acceptable, or is 10% the necessary path?

@Schoon1Sbastien I agree with you. Right now, everyone is losing money. Holders are losing money, and validators are losing money on this blockchain. Only a few people are actually managing to make any money...

It’s interesting that you see better returns on Bitpanda, but I doubt it. In reality, you would probably get a better deal by choosing a delegator directly on the blockchain who takes lower fees.

Casper is one of the few blockchains with almost no fees on delegation rewards. This is its main selling point. However, I think a 10% fee is a bit high and might scare away delegators. But we have to understand why this is being discussed: it is about the network’s survival.

1. The problem with decentralizationRight now, many people only delegate to validators with 0% fees. As a result, these few validators hold too much power.

If you look at the Top 5 or Top 10, these few people alone could decide the future of the blockchain.
This is bad for decentralization. Adding a small fee would help balance the voting power by encouraging people to choose different validators.

2. Validators are losing moneyValidators have real costs to keep the blockchain running, and most of them make no profit at all.

My personal case: For over two years, I have been paying for two servers out of my own pocket. My rewards don't cover my monthly costs.

Validators are leaving: Because it’s not profitable, many are quitting. We used to have a waiting list; now, we are missing nearly 30 nodes.

Fewer validators mean less security. We need to find a balance: validators shouldn't have to work for free, and the power to vote shouldn't belong to just 5 or 10 people. We need to fix this while staying attractive for delegators.
