I’ve been considering lately why “Bible-believing” rather than “Jesus following” seems to be the descriptor of choice for evangelical churches. I trust the Bible because I trust Jesus, not vice versa. If we are going to appeal to authority, shouldn’t it be to the highest?
@BradleyWhitford@SophieLuther83 I think there is a story about how Jesus dealt with a woman threatened with public execution over her account of a sexual encounter. Pretty sure he cast the first stone, no…wait (checks notes), never mind, that was the fundamentalist assholes who accused her. Carry on.
BREAKING: In a stunning announcement, Donald Trump just announced that he will revoke the protective status of Haitian migrants in Ohio legally. This is repulsive. Retweet so all Americans see how vile Trump really is.
10 simple facts about North Carolina/Helene:

6. Gov. Roy Cooper (D) asked Biden, Harris and Trump to stay out until rescue missions were complete for obvious reasons

9. FEMA search and rescue teams are on the ground and have been for days
10. This website is full of people lying about 1-9.
@grcastleberry Don’t worry, 8 out of ten of them are voting for Trump. I do wonder what happened to the Christian worldview, which insisted that character in leaders was of paramount importance and that was suspicious of overtly political approaches to the church’s mission.
@MikeCosper That you are glibly talking about what can only be described as a terrorist attack as an indication that Israel will be fine is abhorrent. Do you not know that a child is among the dead? Israel’s indiscriminate warfare since October 7 is morally equivalent to Hamas’ terrorism.
@EndWokeness I live in Grand Rapids Michigan where people fly Polish flags year round and coming up in October we will have Polski days which is a fairly big deal. Yet I would not imagine anyone has a problem with that. Don’t confuse celebrating national heritage with hatred for the US.
BREAKING: In a stunning leak, Donald Trump gave the keynote address at the Heritage Foundation where he announced the work the foundation did (Project 2025) would be crucial to his policy goals. Retweet so all Americans know Trump will enact Project 2025.
@taylorsschumann Years ago I decided that since I was likely to get to eternity and find that I had erred either in being too judgmental or too gracious, I would purpose to be in trouble for the latter and trust in the same grace from Jesus.
@andrewtwalker Coupled with two days of bomb threats closing schools in Springfield, Ohio. Yes, as so many of us have been saying for nine years now, rhetoric that inflames can make space for actual violence and it must stop.
@profsamperry The book “Rapture Ready” released in 2007(?) makes the case that it is more of a pop culture sub group. It’s a very insightful outside perspective of what evangelicalism is.
