How did $SPOT pass its first major stress test, even with millions in $AMPL sold?

The @AmpleforthOrg ecosystem has always been built on two pillars: decentralization and durability. And once again, those values were tested in one of the most critical stress tests we’ve seen since SPOT launched.

In August 2024, FTX entered the final stages of its liquidation, selling over 2% of the $AMPL network within two months on centralized exchanges.

The result?

Intense market volatility and a 79% drop in $AMPL’s market cap from its March 2024 highs, triggering the largest supply contraction since 2021. Yet, both Ampleforth and its $AMPL-backed asset, $SPOT, performed as designed.

Despite nearly 80% market cap losses in its collateral asset $AMPL, $SPOT passed this stress test with flying colors and experienced little price volatility.

$SPOT, the first low-volatility commodity money, defines a new class of unpegged low-volatility perpetual derivatives that—unlike stablecoins—are durable, decentralized, and inflation-resistant.

This ability to weather volatility without collapsing into a death spiral is what sets $SPOT apart from current-generation approaches.

And if the @FTX_Official liquidations prove anything, it's that low volatility commodity monies (LVCMs) like $SPOT work.
