”The famous Italian diver Enzo Maiorca dove into the sea of Syracuse and was talking to his daughter Rossana who was aboard the boat. Ready to go in, he felt something slightly hit his back.
He turned and saw a dolphin. Then he realized that the dolphin did not want to play but to express something. The animal dove and Enzo followed.
At a depth of about 12 meters, trapped in an abandoned net, there was another dolphin. Enzo quickly asked his daughter to grab the diving knives.
Soon, the two of them managed to free the dolphin, which, at the end of the ordeal, emerged, issued an "almost human cry" (describes Enzo). (A dolphin can stay under water for up to 10 minutes, then it drowns.)
The released dolphin was helped to the surface by Enzo, Rosana and the other dolphin. That’s when the surprise came: she was pregnant!
The male circled them, and then stopped in front of Enzo, touched his cheek (like a kiss), in a gesture of gratitude and then they both swam off.
Enzo Maiorca ended his speech by saying: “Until man learns to respect and speak to the animal world, he can never know his true role on Earth.”
@ianmcc Thanks for mentioning. I thought he might have overstepped as his understanding of wildlife conservation seems underdeveloped based on the statement.
Yesterday we stood with each other in response to the backsliding of rights. But what about today? What about tomorrow? What about next week or next month? What about November? We need to sustain this solidarity and convert this energy into action. Let’s make that promise. END
I felt proud. Really proud that my community came together. We showed solidarity. I spoke and said that their energy is my energy and my energy is theirs. We help each other through these tough moments. And our community stood in solidarity with towns all across America 10/11
I got in my car and drove back home to NJ. I got word that the community was pulling together a rapid response rally. When I arrived I saw hundreds of people with many more pulling up in their cars. The parking lot was overflowing. Cars honking their horns as they passed. 9/11
People there knew that the day was a gut punch. But they didn’t want the Court to have the last word. Thousands of people showed up to say that this dangerous court decision does not reflect America and what we stand for. I felt a profound solidarity. 8/11
But what was most profound was the feeling of solidarity. The crowd growing up against the perimeter fence. More people showing up by the minute. We chanted loudly as if we could with our voices cancel out the damages emanating from this square block of America. 7/11
I walked across the street to the Supreme Court. Being there at the epicenter felt profound. That this building and 9 people inside could change our way of life. To see words “Equal Justice Under Law” etched into stone but knowing reality of the removal of rights from women. 6/11
This House chamber is a room meant to protect Americans. To give us rights instead of take them away. To make laws to help solve problems instead of throwing our country into disarray. I walked out of the chamber after votes and headed across the street. I need to step away. 5/11
It was disturbing to see lawmakers celebrating the removal of rights from Americans. To see them fist-pumping and hollering in the House chamber. This is a sacred space. The same room where the 19th Amendment passed giving rights to women to vote. 4/11
Next up it’s marriage equality, birth control, gay rights. It’s not speculation as Clarence Thomas made that clear in his published opinion yesterday. Right out in the open for all to see. 3/11
One Republican congressperson said something like “let’s keep this going now.” The words reinforced that this has always been their plan. It’s only the beginning. Republican leadership is hell bent on transforming America by rolling back our rights. Rolling back out progress 2/11
I was on House floor as decision striking Roe was announced. I realized it happened because I saw Marjorie Taylor Greene and others jump up and high five each other. I overheard what they said. One said he always dreamt of this day. Other said something that hit me hard…THREAD
