Austin has spent well over $400 million on homelessness in the last decade, by some calculations. Now the city wants $100 million more next year, plus a $23 million/year increase through 2034.

Here’s some of what that $100 million will buy:
• 60 bureaucrats’ salaries and benefits servicing the homeless industrial complex
• $32M for shelters, incl. $8M for a temporary facility + $19M to operate 550 new beds
• $24M for rapid rehousing – even though all existing programs are full
• $13M for permanent supportive housing (PSH) – despite a massive backlog of unfunded units
• $5M for more outreach & encampment “management”
• $4M for “diversion” + “landlord engagement”
• Annual costs of $25K–$40K per bed or client placement

@DocumentingATX It’s across the street from a retirement community with hundreds of seniors and an elementary school. I’ve seen cars driving back there and very young children in shopping carts. I’ve tried Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison and police but no one cares. It’s disgusting.

You spew hate against APD when in reality those officers were stopping an individual who was trying to assault another person in YOUR district!

Austin should be a safe haven for all. But you’ve promoted a sense of lawlessness in your own district.
