CONVICTED | He Chased, Beat And Stamped On Defenceless Ducks While His Friends Laughed — Then Posted It On Snapchat

Owen Rayner, 20, of Staincross, Barnsley, chased three Mallard ducks around a lakeside, struck them repeatedly with a large stick and stamped on at least three of them as they desperately tried to flee. Two older teenagers watched and laughed as it happened. Rayner filmed it and posted it on Snapchat.

RSPCA Inspector Keith Hogben — a man with 27 years of experience — described it as one of the worst deliberate acts of cruelty on innocent defenceless animals he had ever witnessed. He said the fact those involved were laughing as they carried out the attack showed how little respect they had for living creatures.

Rayner admitted an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 for intentionally killing or causing injury to three ducks. The court heard the attack was deliberate, prolonged and carried out purely for amusement.

He was sentenced to an 18-week suspended prison sentence, 150 hours unpaid work and over £500 in fines and costs.

Ducks feel pain and fear just like any other living creature. They were chased, beaten and stamped on for entertainment.

And once again — no prison time. 😡😡

Anyone who has ever had a dog knows this look. It's the one they give you when they can tell something is wrong, and they have decided they are not leaving your side...

This beautiful painting is called Fidelity, and it was made by British artist Briton Rivière in 1869. A young man sits in the corner of a cold prison cell, awaiting trial. He is a poacher, caught taking game in an age when that could ruin a life. And pressed against his knee, gazing up into his face, is his dog, who has followed him even here.

You cannot see the man's face, Rivière hides it so that the entire emotional weight of the painting falls onto the dog. We are left to read the man's sadness in the animal's eyes.

The dog knows nothing of poaching or laws. It only knows that its person is hurting. And anyone who has ever loved a dog knows that look: "I don’t understand what has happened, but I know you are sad, and wherever you go, I will go too." The cold, the fear, the locked cell, none of it matters. Leaving him was never even a choice...

That is the meaning of the title Rivière chose for the painting: Fidelity. Faithfulness that asks for no reason and no reward. As American humorist Josh Billings once said: "A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself."

🐒❤️ A tired proboscis monkey was spotted struggling to cross a river in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Then something unexpected happened.

Two fishermen noticed the exhausted primate swimming in the current and carefully brought their boat alongside it. The monkey climbed aboard, sat down like a regular passenger, and enjoyed a free ride across the river. 🚤😂

At one point, the impatient monkey even jumped off too early, only to climb back on and continue the journey. The fishermen eventually guided it safely to shore. The heartwarming video quickly went viral and earned praise across social media.

What makes the story even more fascinating is that proboscis monkeys are excellent swimmers and are known to cross rivers in Borneo, but river crossings can still be risky because of currents and predators such as crocodiles.
