Today, we remember that dark day years ago, when evil men in the name of a global anti-human ideology carried out despicable terrorist acts that overthrew the democratically elected government of President Salvador Allende in Chile, violently dismantling the country’s democracy and stripping millions of people of their rights.
The U.S.-backed fascist coup ushered in a brutal dictatorship marked by widespread human-rights abuses, while advancing economic policies that enabled the exploitation of workers and the plundering of Chile’s resources.
We remember those who suffered, and we must never forget the legacy of U.S. anti-democratic criminal actions and global right-wing terrorism.
