I was talking to my friends tonight about how white folks can be better allies. My white friend has a white friend who mentioned he wanted to be a better ally—aside from being a human shield in interaction with police—but he didn’t know how. He wants more social interaction.
#islamraceuvm I know we've read about intersectionality (thank you @IjeomaOluo!) but we can/should always learn more about it, esp. from the woman who developed the term!
We should do something about the actual emergencies that plague our nation — like climate change or health care access — not playing politics in order to build a wasteful border wall.
"Voluntary blindness" on the part of Premier François Legault.
We talked a bit in class today about how denying/ignoring racism perpetuates and sometimes encourages it, so I thought I'd share this article #islamraceuvm
This @AnaMariaArchil2, the NY-14 shero that will be accompanying me to the State of the Union tomorrow.
She wasn’t planning on leaping into that elevator ahead of the Kavanaugh vote, but after hearing the stories of survivors across the country, she went in.
A defining moment.
This is my grandfather, Murray Goldfinger. The tattoo, 161108, was given to him at Birkenau.
He's 91 and his health is failing. He told his tale of survival for 65 years. Now, I've taken the responsibility.
One part of his story always gets a big reaction from students.
@ProfIRMF I feel like it's all three? It implies that Iran (and Iranians) are ruled by religion (Islam) which is implied to be negative (since the pic was taken from an atheist website). So it passes judgement on a country, a people, and a religion all at once

Also re: #1 I mean to say that everyone who lives in America is affected by Protestant Christianity because it influences so much of our political rhetoric (and documents, like the Constitution), not that it's necessarily, broadly important to all Americans
What troubles me most:
1) the misunderstanding of how important Protestant Christianity is/was to America(ns)
2) the contrast between a "good" country (US) and a "bad" country (Iran)
3) my white, supposedly "open minded/accepting" friend was the one who shared this
Meet Candice Payne, the amazing woman who put 80 homeless people in hotel rooms during the life-threatening, historic cold in Chicago.
Please show this American hero the love and respect she deserves. ❤️
