We are not a monolith. We don’t grow up with the same lived experiences. Cubans don’t understand what it’s like to live undocumented.

Stop saying Latinos are all the same.
Sarah McBride has won the race for Delaware’s lone at-large U.S. House district, and will now make history as the first openly transgender member of Congress in the United States. This milestone represents a significant leap forward for LGBTQIA+ representation at the highest levels of government.
At just 34 years old, McBride boasts an impressive track record. She made history as the first openly transgender person to work in the White House during the Obama administration and serves as the nation’s highest-ranking transgender elected official in her current role as a Delaware state senator.
While her identity is groundbreaking, McBride emphasized that her policy priorities extend beyond LGBTQIA+ issues. In the Delaware Senate, she successfully passed a paid family leave bill, allowing up to 12 weeks of leave for workers. Her congressional campaign focuses on critical issues such as affordable health care, reproductive freedom, and raising the minimum wage.
Though McBride will be one of 435 members in the House, her presence will be a transformative step for approx 1.6 million Americans who identify as transgender. Her candidacy not only highlights her personal achievements but also symbolizes hope and progress for many across the nation.
‘We know throughout history that the power of proximity has opened even the most closed of hearts and minds,’ McBride told CBS News. ‘And I still believe that the power of proximity taps what I believe to be the most fundamental human emotion, which is empathy.’

In America, we settle our political differences democratically—not violently. I am deeply saddened by today’s events in Pennsylvania. I condemn any violence aimed at former President Trump in the strongest terms, and pray for him, his family & our nation. We are better than this.
