We've been awarded a UKRI MRC grant to examine the causes and consequences of #heterochromatin hypomethylation in cancer 🥳. #postdoc opportunity coming in the near future. #epigenetics. Please share with anyone who might be interested.
The good idea comes when one person feels comfortable enough to say something that might make them look stupid and their friend is open enough to recognize its potential.
Expert's Dilemma: the more specialized you become, the less open you are to creative solutions from other fields. But the more you explore other fields, the more you risk losing credibility in your home field.
Two papers.
On the left, a non-randomized, non-crossover study showing that a one-off sauna exposure significantly decreased arterial stiffness, with implications on cardiovascular health.
On the right, a randomized, crossover (more robust) study, showing no benefits on arterial stiffness or blood flow. Note the colossal difference in Altmetric score and media attention.
The media favors sensational but flawed studies over rigorous ones, distorting public understanding. #science #media
🚨 New Textbook on Conformal Prediction 🚨
https://t.co/n2gcyiOM7k
“The goal of this book is to teach the reader about the fundamental technical arguments that arise when researching conformal prediction and related questions in distribution-free inference.
Many of these proof strategies, especially the more recent ones, are scattered among research papers, making it difficult for researchers to understand where to look, which results are important, and how exactly the proofs work.
We hope to bridge this gap by curating what we believe to be some of the most important results in the literature and presenting their proofs in a unified language, with illustrations, and with an eye towards pedagogy.”
We are looking for feedback — and this is only a draft, with Part 4 coming soon! Please reach out!

Ens veiem aviat!
Quin bon reportatge, #CientíficsTV3!
