Cognitive overload is a major challenge for learners. 😫 Tackle it using the concept of the Expertise Reversal Effect and a 3-stage approach to gradually remove the scaffolding of support.
@__codexterous Some teachers believe we shouldn’t scaffold the writing process by teaching structures that help students write especially under stress because these can produce ‘formulaic’ essays. I’m with you - scaffold, structure and repeat until they’ve got it. Thanks Andy

With new printing and cursive curriculum expectations, there are lots of tweets and news articles decrying this as a return to an old school, useless practice. Explicit instruction in handwriting, though, remains a critical part of effective literacy instruction even now.
