Our Junior and Intermediate educators joined with @MariaLuisaLebar and our friends @sttcatholic for collaborative inquiry related to inferring. We can’t wait to bring this learning to the desks of our students! 💙
A fun and supportive Create, Make & Take literacy learning invitations and centres session @FairviewPSPDSB Thank you @MariaLuisaLebar for guiding the thinking & creativity and a big shout out to the staff for the fabulous collaboration 👏🏻🙌🏻 @Janette_Walcott
Great to participate in learning w/ @MariaLuisaLebar & same-grade colleagues from @hfcatholic! We are excited to take our learning into the classroom before reconvening to analyze student work & make plans for our next instructional moves in relation to the strategy of inferring!
How are multilingual learners using all their linguistic skills and experiences as a form of communication? @MariaLuisaLebar
How do we ensure we as Ts are not creating advantages for the monolingual English speakers in the class? How could wordless books help to teach skills?
"Students will become good readers when they read more.Students will read more when they enjoy reading. They will enjoy reading when they enjoy their reading material. They will enjoy their reading material when they are left to choose it themselves..." Alfie Kohn
We want children to see themselves as readers that select books that interest them and not see themselves as a reading level. Therefore, how are we organizing classroom libraries?
Responsive teaching means teaching the child, not the program, not the book. Teaching reading, therefore, is a science of observing, making decisions, adjusting and knowledge.
It’s imperative we audit our current literacy programs through an anti-racist lens. It’s only through anti-racist teaching that students will engage with literacy programs that are truly comprehensive. #PeelLiteracy
