I resigned as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of @MCC_Budapest .

Hungary’s new liberal, Brussels-backed government is determined to dismantle everything that does not serve its political interests.

First, in the name of “democracy,” it excluded its main political opponent from democratic competition. It changed the rules so that @PM_ViktorOrban can never again become Prime Minister - even if the Hungarian people choose to elect him.

Now it plans to bar long-serving Members of Parliament from standing for election, while threatening the President of the Republic and attempting to remove him through a one-sentence constitutional amendment simply because he refuses to follow the government’s political line.

The same campaign is now being waged against non-government-affiliated educational institutions and non-liberal civil society.

The government knows their measures cannot withstand constitutional scrutiny, so they are rewriting the Constitution to shield them.

What they are effectively doing is nationalizing these foundations. Those they cannot nationalize, they will simply deprive of their funding.

@MCC_Budapest is an extraordinary institution. Over the past years, thousands of talented students, outstanding colleagues, and a truly global network have helped strengthen Hungary’s reputation around the world.

With more than 8,000 students, free education, 30 locations, and countless distinguished international speakers and events, MCC has become one of Central Europe’s leading educational and think tank communities.

I cannot stand by while this work is being dismantled. I opposed these measures until the very last moment in Parliament, and after that I resigned as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MCC.

Political power cannot erase what we have built, and they will never silence us.

The work of rebuilding starts now.

Hungary’s national conservative movement is stronger than any temporary government - and it will endure.

This will be my most important mission in the years ahead.
