BREAKING NEWS | Three suspects have just been killed after a deadly confrontation with KZN police outside Estcourt.

The DPCI Provincial Tracking Team, supported by security partners, was following up on information regarding a planned cash-in transit heist.

A warrant of arrest had been issued for one of the gang members, who was wanted in connection with several murders and the possession of unlicensed firearms.

Officers tried to stop a Chevrolet Cruze on the R74 between Estcourt and Colenso a short while ago, but were allegedly met with gunfire as the occupants tried to escape.

A car chase and shootout followed, resulting in the suspects crashing at the roadside.

Three men have been confirmed dead while a fourth - believed to be armed with an AK-47 - fled into the bushes after dropping a magazine.

Guns and ammunition have been found in the car so far, but the entire crime scene is still being processed.

A search is on for the outstanding suspect.

No police officers have been wounded in the exchange.
