60 years ago, on October 6, 1961, President Kennedy encouraged Americans to build bomb shelters for protection from atomic fallout, a chilling reminder of Cold War tensions. #ThisDayInHistory https://t.co/pdpkIFLqig
@mkellis77 Something comparable happened after the Bubonic Plague, which contributed to the end of feudalism & the proliferation of a new urban merchant class that emerged from serfdom (the Medici used their wealth to promote Greco-Roman culture & values to unleash the Italian Renaissance)
#OTD in 1866, the Memphis Massacre began. After an incident between white police officers and Black Union Army veterans, white mobs rampaged through Black neighborhoods. The massacre's horrors shocked the nation and helped Republicans convince Congress to pass the 14th Amendment.

@mkellis77 I'd like to say that I am proud of Delta for doing the right thing; but, then I would have to validate the perverse amount of power and influence wielded by corporations in within our democracy. It sickens me.
@jacobus_plooy@Suzume_chan007 Yep...a new monster in the making. A definite form of child abuse. That beautiful creature was destroyed for a disgusting photo opp.
A dropped match hit the floor of New York City's Triangle Shirtwaist Factory on March 25, 1911. Within minutes, the building was ablaze in one of the deadliest workplace accidents in American history. #ThisDayInHistory https://t.co/ihJVKMGxu8
