@sustainnyc @sustainnyc Degrowthers seldom claim that the global south needs to stop growth (I'm from an "emerging market" btw). Instead, the focus is on the global north, which consumes the most energy & resources per capita. I'd strongly recommend some of @jasonhickel's work to learn more

Sen gives the example of voting. People have the right to vote, but it doesn't matter if they don't have transportation to the voting booth. Only when such barriers are removed, do people actually have the right, and can act from personal choice

Been reading about Amartya Sen’s capability theory. How do we define rights - is it something that should be given? or is it something that can't be taken away? Sen says it's the former.

Capitalism is about 500 years old, yet we act as if it has existed forever. Trading goods and services are NOT capitalism. Capitalism is the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few with little regard of people's wellbeing

Desis standing with BLM is great, but if we've never spoken abt the mistreatment/murder of minorities at home, let's take a moment to think abt why. It's easier to join in & ask for rights/justice for another community when we aren't the ones they're primarily being demanded from
