This is real and there is a biological reason for it. After you have a baby, your brain rewires to be on high alert for anything that could hurt the baby.
Your sense of smell gets sharper. You become more sensitive to germs, noise, and mess. The dog you used to love is suddenly too loud, too smelly and too unpredictable around your newborn. You are also making a ton of oxytocin and prolactin, which make you fiercely protective of your baby. The dog is just not your priority anymore.
For most women this fades over the first year. For some it never fully comes back.
