#lincpsych Yes! for sure. Total confirmation bias. They were probably disregarding everything that was different between them and picking those things that was similar in order to justify this new salient identity of being a triplet. These efforts creating more stress fitting in.
It’s really interesting that they kept looking for similarities and wanting to be similar. Could this be a result of identifying themselves in a social group? Could this have become their new salient identity? Being part of the triplets? #lincpsych
Yes! I agree. Those social and cognitive factors that can play a role in life are determining to how those biological pre-disposals manifest themselves.
As mentioned in the last minutes of the documentary I agree that even though both nature and nurture affect behavior, nurture at the end has more weight that nature, as environmental stressors can affect the biological factors within the triplets. #lincpsych
#lincpsych Having a dysfunctional relationship with his strict father and a dysfunctional childhood (not fitting in) could have made Eddy develop negative schemas (ineptness schemas, self-blame schemas, Negative self-evaluation schema)

#lincpsych Is it better for the remaining twins to not know? Would it be more damaging to know they were manipulated? Is it their right to know they have a lost brother? Is it most ethical to wait for all the twins to die to release the study?
#lincpsych the boys turned out to have different lives is because of how they were raised and despite having a tremendous amount of similarities they were still brought up in different families with different styles speak to the importance of nurture
#lincpsych the kids were placed in homes depending on their parenting styles. Unlike his brothers, Eddy had a bad relationship with his father, adding to the vulnerability factor of not having his dad to confide in and isolating him within his family

#lincpsych The loss of Bobby in the business could prove to be a vulnerability factor in relation to his loss of a confiding relationship with his brothers
For a very long time, the triplets didn’t know they were part of a study since it started when they were very young or that they even had other brothers so therefore they couldn’t withdrawal from the study at any point #lincpsych
#lincpsych The loss of Bobby in the business could prove to be a vulnerability factor in relation to his loss of a confiding relationship with his brothers
#lincpsych I think due to the repercussions of the experiment (stress of the separated children and the concealment that their parents had suffered from mental health leading to problems in the children, suicides) it cant be forgiven in the name of science
Can the ethical guidelines be bent for science, to use deception and let the parents think it was a normal study on adoptive children, would it be evil, or could it be forgiven in the name of science? #lincpsych
#lincpsych Had Eddy never met his brothers would he had also gone down a path of suicide? (because of stress factors of finding out they had been separated and being involved in the twin experiment)
#lincpsych both the birth parents and their children suffered mental health problems #geneticvulnerability Not telling the parents removed the opportunity of using therapies to help the siblings in the development of the disorder #unethical
#lincpsych The loss of Bobby in the business could prove to be a vulnerability factor in relation to his loss of a confiding relationship with his brothers
#lincpsych similarities (same college, mannerisms, personalities, wrestlers) allow for evidence for “genetic vulnerability” and the portion nature plays/ potentially even impacting their mental health (this goes in line with why MZ twin’s concordance rate was far below 100)
#lincpsych Finding out they were part of an experiment involving their brothers could turn into a provoking agent that produces ongoing stress discovering they were manipulated. As well as growing up that proving a being ongoing stress of feeling like lab rats.
#lincpsych There are numerous violations of ethics; consent (since they were children), debriefing (they were never told about the experiment results), deception (they weren't told about their lost brothers)
