To put Russia's appetite for more land into the context it deserves by showing what they've done with the apparently insufficient land they already have, I decided to combine all my old and new travel guides through Russia's very posh cities into one colossal final thread.🧵
Remember how, for years, the Biden administration stubbornly resisted every desperate plea from Ukraine for ATACMS?
How it kept those missiles sitting in American stockpiles, and when it finally agreed to provide them, did so only sparingly, sending small numbers of older missiles…
Only for Trump to end up burning through almost the entire arsenal in his failed adventure against the Iranian regime.
History truly has a very dark sense of humor.
2018: Kostiantynivka, there are no russians.
2026: Kostiantynivka, the russians have arrived.
Many of us love our hometowns, because if you were born there, the city chose you, not you it. Childhood memories, like a foundation, stay with us until our last day. The memories of many residents of Kostiantynivka, as well as of other destroyed cities in my country, are erased... Erased, because every time they touch upon memories of childhood or simply any time in the past, their memory immediately conjures today's picture of their city: in summer it is shades of green and black, in winter it is white and black.
A long time ago, I heard words that penetrated very deeply into me: "There are tears on the face, and there are tears of the soul." Those who see their destroyed city/home are most likely already crying in their souls-there have already been more than enough tears on the face. 2018, it would seem not such a distant past.... One can only imagine how the fate of each person who happened to be in the frame of the person who made this video has turned out, how many of them are still alive... The russians continue to call this a war.
8 people were killed waiting for a train last night. A journey they would never make.
Russia has been murdering civilians at train stations constantly. They killed 60 civilians evacuating Kramatorsk in 2022.
There’s no soldiers here. Just innocent people waiting to go home
Reports of an Iskander cluster strike on Kyiv - a capital in Europe! We are allowing the ongoing Russian genocide of Ukrainians - these strikes are primarily on residential buildings!!!! What the hell are our values? "Serve up others to Russia while pledging to them our support?"
Putin’s forces destroyed the 300-year-old Holy Presentation Church in Kherson region.
Built in 1725 without metal nails, it was Ukraine’s only surviving example of 18th-century Cossack wooden church architecture.
Western countries do not support Ukraine and should stop saying they do.
They don’t stop russia conducting a genocide. They don’t impose a trade embargo on russia. They don’t ban visas for russians. They do not shelter the skies of Europe.
Western leaders are cowards and fools.
The Russians fired 35 missiles at Ukraine last night, 27 of them ballistic. Only a single ballistic missile was shot down—simply because there are no missiles left for the Patriot system, according to Zelenskyy.
In Kyiv alone: 9 dead and at least 23 injured as a result of the Russian attack.
And no, Trump will not supply Patriots to Ukraine, and no, Trump will likely not allow Ukraine to produce Patriots itself.
And yes, Trump is doing everything he can to help Putin destroy Ukraine.
💔 A Russian missile wiped out an entire family in the village of Radushne.
In their own home, 47-year-old Artem and 41-year-old Olena were killed. Along with them, the Russian strike took the lives of their children and their 18-month-old grandson.
Among those whose bodies have already been recovered or are still being searched for beneath the rubble—are:
Mark, who would have turned 18 next month, Dominika (16), Viorika (14), Zakharii (13), Azarii Ilai (11), Federika (9), Emiliia (7), and little Artem, just 1 year and 6 months old
Although not all of the bodies have yet been recovered from the rubble, their loved ones no longer have any doubt about their fate.
Syrskyi is out. Drapatyi is in. The General Staff faces an overhaul.
Tonight you will hear that Zelensky ‘caved.’ That the street now runs the war. That changing commanders mid-war is chaos.
I see the opposite — and I wrote it this morning: a leader who can be argued back into the right position by his own citizens is not weak. He is governed.
But don’t miss the deeper event. This was never about two men. It was a referendum on military doctrine — the Soviet inheritance of centralized command versus the war Ukraine actually proved it could win: software, iteration, initiative at the edge.
The old doctrine just lost its chief defender.
And look at who won. Drapatyi is the general who once offered his resignation because a Russian strike killed his recruits — he claimed responsibility for deaths he did not cause. In Moscow, generals collect medals for deaths they did cause.
That is the difference between the two armies. Tonight it became the difference between the two futures.
Fedorov’s return is still unresolved. The doctrine question no longer is.
Six days of protest. Zero broken windows. One corrected government.
Democracies argue. That is not their weakness. It is their weapons system.
We must be morally prepared for the fact that Russia will deliberately try to destroy Ukraine's many ancient monuments and its most important sites of cultural and historical heritage.
Today, they desecrated the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra with their violence. They struck the Dovzhenko Film Studio. The Mystetskyi Arsenal art center was damaged, as was a church in Dnipro.
Saint Sophia of Kyiv is in danger. So are the ancient landmarks of Kyiv, the thousand-year-old churches of Chernihiv, the museums of the Zaporizhian Sich, and the historic treasures of Lviv.
Since fascist Russia is somehow unable to defeat the Ukrainian army, and its missile terror against civilians is failing to produce results, the mighty and invincible Russia will now bravely wage war against historic churches with even greater ferocity.
Russia has attacked the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio in Kyiv, one of Ukraine’s oldest film studios.
The strike damaged the studio’s costume workshop and destroyed Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection. The studio held around 100,000 costumes and three million items of clothing. Other buildings and facilities on the studio’s grounds were also damaged.
Rescue and emergency services are currently working on the territory.

This is what Christianity truly means to Russia.
The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the oldest and most significant monastery of Eastern Slavic Orthodox Christianity, a UNESCO site with almost 1,000 years of history, was under Russian attack last night in Ukraine’s capital city.
This is what happens in reality while that monstrous Soviet KGB regime obsessed with war and territorial grabs tries to pose as “based and trad” to fool Christian conservatives in the West.
And it started raining in the Ukrainan city when its main holy site was on fire.
By striking the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, one of the greatest holy sites of Christianity, Putin has forever put his name on the list of history’s worst barbarians.
He should be damned for centuries. And he will lose this war.
From the Horde in the 13th century to the Nazis and Bolsheviks in the 20th century, Kyiv’s sacred monasteries have suffered numerous barbarically attacks.
Now we are dealing with Russian terrorists who have already outmatched ISIS in their crimes against cultural heritage. Only Russian scum who have nothing sacred can deliberately damage the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a unique UNESCO heritage site under special protection.
We will be urgently initiating all relevant procedures within UNESCO and all other international mechanisms, demanding immediate and adequate responses to this state barbarism.
We expect strong reactions by international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. We need action now to stop Russian barbarism.
Every day, ships leave this russian owned factory in Ireland straight for St Petersburg carrying thousands of tonnes of raw alumina for the war machine.
There’s corruption everywhere. Locals tell me politicians are bought by oligarchs.
Ireland is no longer militarily neutral.
Let me demonstrate what “military targets” Russia hit in Kyiv today.
With a reminder that Kyiv is a European city with a population of 3 million - similar to Rome or Berlin.
Apartment buildings. The vast majority of the population lives in such buildings.
(This are not all that were hit tonight)

Putin wanted to show “strength” but only confirmed his weakness.
Overnight, Russia carried out one of the largest terrorist attacks on Kyiv with around 600 drones, many dozens of ballistic, air-ballistic, and cruise missiles, and a dummy IRBM.
Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, and Zhytomyr regions were also under attack.
As of now, at least two civilian people have been reported killed and many dozens injured. These numbers may grow. Many residential buildings have been damaged.
Unable to achieve any results on the battlefield, Putin turns to terror against civilians.
This strike was probably meant to demonstrate “strength” to the domestic audience, but instead it only confirms Putin’s weakness. Even Russians see that he is a loser.
His “special operation” is not achieving any results. Losses are enormous, but there is not a single achieved goal. Except that there are no safe places in Russia any more, as Ukraine ramps up its special long-range sanctions.
To our allies, I want to say this: it is time to double down, not back down, in supporting Ukraine and increasing pressure on the Russian regime.
We call for additional defense capabilities, including to protect our sky; investment in our defense industry; increased pressure on Russia, including entry ban for Russian combatants, full use of frozen assets; strong political decisions with regard to Ukraine’s EU accession and other steps.
The world has the leverage. It needs to be used right — to show Moscow that such strikes will not bring any results — and force Russia to end this war.
18–20 May 1944, stalin deported nearly 200,000 Crimean Tatars from Crimea — families forced into freight wagons and sent 1,000s of kms away, mostly Uzbekistan.
Today, russia again tries to erase Crimea’s identity through occupation, propaganda and repression.
