Big win for Filipino animation.

After six years in the making, Avid Liongoren’s “Zsazsa Zaturnnah” has officially premiered at the Marché International du Film d’Animation (MIFA) in Annecy, France, earning a standing ovation under the Midnight Specials section.

The moment feels full circle. The film was first introduced as a Work-in-Progress at Annecy’s MIFA in 2025. Now, it returns as a completed feature, ready to bring the story of Ada (better known as Zsazsa Zaturnnah) to global audiences.

The project is also backed by the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ International Co-Production Fund (ICOF), highlighting the growing support for Filipino creatives on the world stage.

“Zsazsa Zaturnnah” is part of the Philippine delegation at MIFA 2026, running from June 23 to 26, alongside a strong lineup of local talent. Carl Joseph Papa’s “58th” is competing in the Contrechamp section, while “The Red Eye of Heaven (Ang Pulang Mata ng Langit)” is being pitched to international partners. Five more animated projects are also featured in the IP Showcase.

It’s a big moment not just for one film, but for the entire industry. Filipino animation is stepping further into the global spotlight, one story at a time.
