There was one legal way for our owner to rid herself of the union: close the store. It’s so dishonest that public message is the usual bullshit: margins bad, Amazon mean, business hard. Finances were a disaster the whole time. It only started to matter recently, and you know why.

I never intended to make this account personal but I’m suddenly not a bookseller anymore. Friday was our last round of union negotiations, and instead of putting the final touches on our first contract, our owner announced the closure of the store - in just one week.
