Iryna-Ester Vrataryova, volunteer: "People describe the horror, the total genocide. This famine has reached such a scale that, in the best-case scenario, a person might eat a clear broth and a few spoonfuls of porridge a day—if they have any porridge left at all. All the supplies that local residents tell me about whenever a connection is established are running out and will be gone by late September or early October. They are left entirely without food, medicine, access to medical care, fire services, or money, and without even being able to safely step outside. I'm not even talking about trying to escape, though sometimes people choose to walk through a minefield because they see a higher chance of survival there than dying of starvation. We are looking at absolute, total horror in the center of Europe—total ethnocide."

​Host: ​"Tell me, regarding the situation in Oleshky—since you monitor other occupied territories, or at least areas where you carry out evacuations—is this a unique situation, or is the food shortage widespread across the entire south?"

​Iryna-Ester: ​"We believe a situation like this could unfold anywhere under occupation. That's why we urge relatives and acquaintances in government-controlled areas to reach out to us, our partners, the Ombudsman, or anyone who can help. The people who managed to escape are literally a handful—and those were earlier cases; no one is escaping now. The entire area is controlled by drones. We are all familiar with the term 'Kherson safaris' regarding what they do on the Right Bank, but I have testimony showing that on the Left Bank, they are honing their skills on local civilians as well."
