‘Victims of grooming were blamed and abandoned because authorities didn’t want to rock the multicultural boat. Most of these girls were highly vulnerable already. No one was fighting their corner.’
Whistleblower @MaggieOliverUK on the rape gangs cover up
A short clip of one of the interviews I’ve done following reporting of the sentences in the latest “Grooming gang” case in #Rochdale
Sentences of 27, 28 and 35 years which FINALLY reflect the magnitude of this systemic organised child rape which has gone virtually unpunished for at least 25 years to my certain knowledge.
Authorities such as police, governments, social services, cps turning away, wilful blindness, gross criminal neglect of duty.
I’ve been banging this drum for 15 years and more, 12 years in earnest but this year has seen an awakening of public horror at what our country has allowed. They’ve finally seen what I first saw in 2004. And it was brought firmly into an international spotlight by @elonmusk in January, leading to my doing over 50 interviews throughout the world - from uk to usa, Germany, France, Finland etc etc
And I believe it is entirely the increased public awareness leading to intense public pressure that has led to these increased sentences. An awareness by this judge at last that we MUST reflect the magnitude of these crimes in sentences - because the public now are fired up and using their voices. Finally!!
None of this is new to me! It’s haunted my dreams for many years as I’ve heard first hand countless survivors tell me there stories - each one as horrific as the abuse these two children endured! And I’ll carry those stories with me until the day I die.
My job has been to educate this country in what those in power wanted to hide. To expose the corruption. The cover ups. To raise awareness. To force change. To support those victims and survivors who don’t want to go public, but who want to bring change based on the reality of the horrors they have experienced, the memories of their childhoods destroyed whilst those whose DUTY it was to protect knowingly just turned away.
These sentences reflect some progress.
And yet one of these two victims has to undergo in excess of FORTY INTERVIEWS, to fight for 20 years, to undergo a 6 month trial and sacrifice her life along the way. In a constant state of waiting, of limbo, of trauma, Hope, fear, anxiety ….
We must get better!!!!
We need data, facts, ethnicity, conversations, joined up police intelligence systems which currently don’t communicate across force areas, experienced detectives, a prioritisation of these horrific crimes rather than targeting easy targets and “naughty words” on social media!!!! We need to deport the rapists, give better victim care, the list is endless!
And we need a government that acts and doesn’t just lie and make empty promises! And that’s not just this crowd, it’s the last lot too!!
So this work is not done. It’s far from over!
And my team at @TMOFCharity The Maggie Oliver Foundation see these cases day in and day out and are as passionate as I am that we have to keep pushing, keep fighting, keep raising awareness whilst supporting those individuals seeking recovery and healing.
Looking forward to discussing the latest Rochdale case on @BBCWomansHour today and also the impact of these cases on those women who have bravely fought for justice… x

RR isn’t taking winter fuel payment from 10m pensioners to make it fairer. She is doing it to save £1.5bn a year. So whether 165 billionaires or 830,000 higher rate taxpayers should get it is irrelevant. She’s taking it from people who need it, some desperately, to save money
The regulations to take Winter Fuel Payment away from 10million pensioners were laid today. There is no provision for a debate in Parliament and they were not referred to the Social Security Advisory Committee. Tomorrow @ofgem will confirm that energy prices will rise on 1 Oct
@WASPI_Campaign Will someone please try to explain how £3k is a win!
What about the years and years of planning, saving, dreaming of our retirement?
What about having those dreams shattered without notice (or very little)?
What about having to sell the family home?
What about #50'sWOMEN?
Cutting the Winter Fuel Payment is the wrong policy decision and will leave millions of older people struggling this winter.

@annief1@terryelaineh1@RishiSunak I am now taxed on my small private pension. After tax my pension is now £4 less than it was less month!! How can this be fair? I loose, Gov gain from my loss again? #50sWomen@MartinSLewis
National Insurance Fund account has surplus of £72.5bn.
Boosted by hikes to pension age (especially hurting women born in the 1950s), erosion of real value of the state pension & benefits.
There is capacity to pay and compensate women, but govt refuses.

@GaryLineker@Lionesses About 20 yrs ago my 9 yr old daughter wrote you a letter Gary, asking why more girl's football wasn't televised! You kindly replied to her, still have the letter lol. Taken a while to get here eh?
"Well done. You managed to shoot a stationery, 14 foot peaceful creature with a high velocity rifle. Very sporting!" ~ @RickyGervais.
RT if you want a WORLDWIDE ban on #trophyhunting.
@carolvorders would you please retweet to help raise awareness of the huge injustice #50sWomen have suffered at the hands of the Government. SPA was raised from 60 to 66 and they didn't bother telling us! At 60 we expected to retire. No time to replan our future!
" The High Court, Court of Appeal & #SupremeCourt decisions do not absolve Govt of its responsibilities" "By reason of signing & ratifying #CEDAW, Govt is obliged to provide #FullRestitution to #50sWomen"
Isn't it the purpose of #APPG to hold Govt to account for breaches of Law?
