When I was 27, Edward Liang choreographed Age of Innocence for the Joffrey Ballet. I was given the main duet with Victoria Jaiani. This duet was incredibly powerful, with complex lifts that required not only extreme strength and stability in both arms to transition smoothly to the next steps but also immense agility.
We performed this duet all over the U.S. and also in Paris, my hometown. I was proud to bring it back there after many years in the U.S.
This experience changed me as a dancer forever. The piece was so successful that it was performed by my company, the Joffrey Ballet, across the U.S. for several years.
