In this study, the effects of integrase inhibitors on two #hESC lines 🧫 were characterized with respect to markers of #pluripotency, early differentiation, and cellular health.

Awesome discussion at #AIDS2022@AIDS_conference on chronic pain in the #GlobalVillage. Here’s @t_povshedna discussing a modified chronic pain body map made in conjunction with peer research associates highlighting how important community involvement is in ALL STEPS of research!
Just launched at #AIDS2022!

As always, a pleasure to write for the @CBR_UBC and grateful to have a such a supportive space to practice my writing skills!
Check out the 11th Norman Bethune Symposium recap article that I co-wrote with my superstar lab mate Nancy Yang 🤩
❄️Should we revisit the use of cold-stored #platelets?
Wayne Zhao (@Ailith12) of the #DevineLab explains how platelet storage conditions - room-temp & cold-stored - can affect platelet effectiveness.

@Esteban09090 @drlaurajwaters @DrYGilleece @DrMartaBoffito @daveback01 @ReechaSofat @CatrionaWaitt@EACSociety@theziti@FrancoisVenter3@TheLancetHIV @tristanjbarber Thank you very much for the great questions! Although the birth defects associated with DTG exposure since conception are rare, the increased prevalence is real. This is why I highlight RAL as a "safer" alternative. Regardless, in some settings DTG may be the best option.
@Esteban09090 @drlaurajwaters @DrYGilleece @DrMartaBoffito @daveback01 @ReechaSofat @CatrionaWaitt@EACSociety@theziti@FrancoisVenter3@TheLancetHIV @tristanjbarber Thank you! HESC models have been used by other groups to identify embryotoxicity caused by many other drugs (eg. valproate). Extrapolating my study to clinical settings is inapt, but the results could inform future strategies for the treatment of HIV in women of reproductive age.
@drlaurajwaters @DrYGilleece @DrMartaBoffito @daveback01 @ReechaSofat @CatrionaWaitt@EACSociety@theziti@FrancoisVenter3@TheLancetHIV @tristanjbarber Thus far, the second-generation InSTIs, alone or in cART, are the most cytotoxic to hESCs. The loss of pluripotency may lead to early embryonic perturbances which could be associated with birth defects. Check out my poster for other discussion! Manuscript in-preparation 😊 (2/2)
@drlaurajwaters @DrYGilleece @DrMartaBoffito @daveback01 @ReechaSofat @CatrionaWaitt@EACSociety@theziti@FrancoisVenter3@TheLancetHIV @tristanjbarber Hello! Was just checking out the #CROI2022 tag and saw that you posted a portion of my poster (CROI 2022, #681). This part of my study specifically focuses on hESC exposure to InSTIs, but I have done work on other ARVs in cART regimens (CROI 2020, #789). (1/2)
Eye-opening presentation by Neila Miled at today's @ubcpathology PALS session. Sure, you may be non-racist, but that's not enough! Are you an #ally and do you take ACTION to be #antiracist? For example, have you checked your manuscript references for IBPOC representation?🧐
Thank you to the #CBR_EWD2021 organizers for including such an important topic in today’s symposium. An even bigger thank you to @james_paulad for continuing to address knowledge gaps in women’s health!
Pleased to hear from Dr. @james_paulad of @QueensPathology about "Challenges facing women with #bleeding disorders". Thanks for sharing insights on this important topic today. 5/n
In May, we held a symposium to celebrate Dr. Ed Conway (@emconway99), the CBR's former Director of 11 years & current PI.
Read our event recap by Marie-Soleil Smith (@MarieSunSmith, #CôtéLab), which covers Ed's legacy, the symposium's talks, & more: https://t.co/PVdSiVFTjN
Marie-Soleil Smith spent three years at Edge in our dance program (class of 2013). She has since went to UBC for her Bachelor of Science (2018) and is currently working on her PhD in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
